He has caused property damage, used the legal system to bully me, and has came on my property when I'm gone just to spy on me! I've called athorities to no avail. This guy is a dangerous drunk and I need advice on how to stop him, on his level.
Thanks to all those who respond.

'When a stray dog tries to bite you, you do NOT bite back !'
...Quietly set up a few traps instead : If you know that he is trying to spy on you, you can secretly install security alarms and video cameras in and around your home [these do not cost such a lot, nowadays] - and use the evidence to prove it to the authorities that this guy was tresspassing.
They will be forced to take action.
Best of Luck.

I was in this same situation... but the jerk lived in my house! I'm serious. He was a tenant. I was at my wits end; he was a drunk, he was a total paranoid, thought everyone was plotting against him, the whole schmear.

I went to the court house and got a form for Domestic Restraining order. In your case, you can just use the standard TRO (temporary restraining order). You fill it out, tell the truth about what is going on and specify that you are IN FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE and be sure to check the box indicating that you need the individual removed from the location.

You go in to the court room right then (you alone, not him) and the judge will approve it. They always do. He'll likely be required to remain several yards away from you. Then, usually in the same building, go to the Sheriff or Marshal and pay them to serve the guy. A Sheriff deputy and a local PD will serve him and forcibly remove him from the premises. Yes, they may require him to leave his own home! At the least the restraining order gives you special rights: if you see him act up again, all you have to do is keep that copy nearby, call 911, and that guy is in jail for a long time for violating the court order.

Revenge is sweet, but karma lasts longer.

I don't think I know any foolproof methods that won't get you in trouble if you get caught. Do not do anything that can be traced back to you in even the remotest way unless you just don't care. Think "forensics".

The most costly but most foolproof method is to engage the services of a lawyer. Get that jerk embroiled in the legal system - he'll have little left to battle you with, and if he does, he'll soon make a mistake that will cost him money or time.

The best thing I can think of is to act completely legally and yet to egg him on to the point where he loses his mind and makes some obviously illegal/crazy move. Then, he can be carted away. Use your brain, not your reptilian emotions. :-)

As far as I know, you're within your rights to use video/audio recording equipment as surveillance on your own property. If he's trespassing and doing damage, you can hang him on that if you have proof.

Gee, what ever started all this?

Well don't do anything for revenge. That will just get you in trouble and when you get in trouble who is the one with the real revenge? Your neighbor is. I would call the cops or have a neighborhood meeting about the guy especially if he is bothering other people besides you. If that fails I would move away. Good luck!

I think Martin Luther King said, "an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind" - it may have been Gandhi. The best thing to do would be to stay clear of your neighbor. If he has problems, he's a drunk, or whatever, there is no way for you to get even with him. If you do something to him, he'll do something worse to you and the cycle will continue. Let it go.

Oh....easy. Wait until he gets behind the wheel drunk, follow him, then call the police as you're following him and report his drunk driving. It's well worth it. But you have to be persistent with the police. Tell them that the driver is all over the road and an accident waiting to happen. Call 911. It'll take you some time to find the perfect moment, but it's well worth it.

Karma will get this guy in due course.

1: take legal action (the most wise course of action)
2: put prawn/seafood shells/leftovers in his letterbox
3: anonymously call the tax dept and inform them he his rorting the system ie: not declaring the 3 kids he has etc
4: does he drive? well, stick a banana down the car exhaust pipe (push it right in so it cant be visible)
5: does he drive when hes drunk? call the authorities at the exact moment hes in the car whilst intoxicated
6: send one of those anonymous hate mail saying 'WATCH YOUR BACK - YOU'RE NEXT
7: Pay a junkie to beat the crap out of him
8: steal his mail - so his bills never get paid LOL and his water/electricity etc get shut off

I would write down everything that goes on with this dumb *** and give it to the police. What would be great is if you had a little handheld camera to record his activities(him being rude to you). Put up "private property" or "no trespassing" signs, build a fence, or if possible move.

If you can afford it get a security system . If you can't at least get a video camera and film him while he is drunk. Where I live restraining orders are free, go to the sheriff's office and say that you are in fear for your life, file a complaint and then go to your county clerks office and file for the restraining order.

Hire a lawyer and sue him for harassment in civil court. Don't lower yourself. If he is a dangerous as you think, leave him alone. Personally I would go have a little "Talk" with him but I have the luxury of being the toughest SOB on the block.....
