Every time I search online, I keep seeing all kinds of setups that seem a little unnecessary for what I want to do. My Nikon D50 doesn't have a remote flash function, but I don't want to use a SC-17 cord to attach my camera to my flash mounted on the light stand. Isn't there something simple that will attach to the flash and the camera without worrying about PC connections and whatnot?

My setup is as follows:
- Nikon D50
- Sigma EF-500 DG ST NA-iTTL hotshoe flash
- Light stand with hotshoe mount and umbrella

I know I could get a new Nikon speedlight and an SU-4, but, like I said, I don't want to spend a whole lot of money.

you can get a slave module that senses the flash from the camera and sets off the remote.

You can get a slave unit that will autofire any kind of strobe with attachment for it once it senses the light from the hotshoe flash. Make sure you set your D50 to the correct sync speed though or you'll miss the full effect of the flash.
