You just need to ask the vet who's performing the op; ring the surgery.

I think most people answering this question are thinking of an umblical hernia which is easy to fix. A perineal hernia is not so easy to fix and is not a routine occurence or surgery. A lot of vets will refer this out simply because they do not do enough of them to feel that they can do an adequate job of fixing the hernia. Ask your vet how many have they done in the past year. If it is less than five, I would ask for a referral to a specialty/ emergency hospital that would handle these more. Since a lot of these hernias are due from trauma- hit by cars- emergency hospitals tend to handle a lot of them. In regards to cost- all depends on the area- I would expect at least $600. This is not an easy surgery and risk of infection is high just because of the location. Good luck though.

Success rate for fixing those hernias- pretty good- All they need to do is stitch the intestines back onto the lining. As for it occuring again in a different spot- all depends on your dog.
Cost- depends on the vet clinic- I would call your vet and ask them. Expect it to be roughly 100-200 more, just in case (the estimates are usually low)

Might be worth speaking to the vet regarding the cost, i doubt it will be cheap.
