Your average lawn will contain several species of grasses. A football pitch will have a different species mix, a bowling green another still and all are different to pasture. And pasture will be different on different soils. It's not a straightforward question!
One of the most common species is probably perennial ryegrass, Lolium perenne. Various other Lolium species feature highly, as do the fescues, Festuca. Creeping red fescue, Festuca rubra, is one of the more common.

When i did my City and Guilds in horticulture we went on a field trip to Wimbledon. It's been many years but i think it was centre court and they had identified the most common grass as Poa annua. It's the same grass that grows between paving slabs on the pavement.

What looks common to us is apparently a mix of different types of grass from the "Poaceae" family, according to Wikipedia.
Wiki also specifies numerous sorts of grass used for lawns, pastures and grassland, so maybe you find the required info there. Good luck!
