They do that to make it easier to teach people who may have reservations against other races.
As for Jesus, he was not white, black, or Jewish. He was born of a Jewish woman, but he was a perfect human being, containing all the same genetic material that lead to the creation of all of us. He was all of us, yet none of us. As for his disciples, yes they were Jewish.

I feel that people believe this because of all the pictures and movies of Jesus being white. I'm not sure what color He was but I know He died for the sins of everyone who believes in God's promise of salvation no matter what race they are.

I think it's because of the pictures that portray Jesus. Jesus was from Israel. Therefore, I believe his skin would be similar to the people of the region.

His skin color might have been white or olive-like or even dark brown, we don't know how he certainly look so does it really matter?
