We live with deadly food allergies here. Rice crispy treats are inexpensive and easy without much cooking. You can also try s'mores with frosting instead of chocolate bars that may contain traces of nuts. In Jan 06' a law was passed to make companies list the allergens in their products. Read the ingredients it will say clearly what is in it. Also the child will not be able to eat foods processed in the same plant as nuts, it should say on the package. I think It's great you're educating yourself to help this child. I have lots of ideas, I'm not sure how much cooking you want to do.

Home made play dough:
This is an excellent rainy-day activity. It's a great way to entertain kids in a safe and fun mannor.
Ingredients:
2 Cups of Flour
2 Cups of Water
2 Tablespoons of Vegetable Oil
2 Tablespoons of Cream of Tarter
1 Cup of Salt
Food Coloring
Directions:
1) Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large sauce pan.
2) Add the food coloring to the water.
3) Mix the colored water and oil into the dry ingredients.
4) Cook on the stove on medium heat and stir constantly.
5) When it feels like stiff mashed potatos, take it off the stove and knead it for about 2 minutes.
6) Store it in something like a tupperware container or a zip-lock baggy when the kids are finished playing with it.
A Couple Notes:
The playdough is non-toxic, so its OK if they eat it, but its not going to taste great. So advice them not to taste it.
If the playdough gets on things like counters, carpet, couches, etc., then a little warm water will remove it if you do it immediatly. The carpeting and couches will be the most difficult to remove the dough, so try to avoid it from getting on there.
The dough will wash out of clothing, but food coloring will not if it is spilled directly on something and left there for more than a couple minutes.
This should only be done under supervision, the kids should not be doing it alone.
Baby Sitters- Always check with the parents before doing this. Also, try to supply the ingredients from your own home.

Orange Banana Milk or "Moo Juice" This milk is packed with nutrition! It is a great way to sneak fruit into a picky toddler's diet or to disguise milk. 1/3 cup (3 oz.) frozen orange juice concentrate l/2 medium banana 1 2/3 cup milk 1 tablespoon wheat germ (optional) 1. Mix all the ingredients in a blender until foamy. 2. Serve immediately - this does not store, because the bananas turn brown. Yield: about 3 cups cook's tip: This is a good way to use bananas that are getting a little too ripe. You can also peel bananas and store them in a resealable plastic bag in the freezer until you are ready to use them. If your child doesn't like a very cold drink let the banana thaw out before using it. The thawed banana will be very soft.

Homemade MAC AND CHEESE !!! It has 5 ingredients and only requires one pot and a strainer.
elbow mac
milk
flower
butter
Velveeta
Cook 1/4 to 1/2 bag macarroni and drain. In same pot, combine 1/4 c. butter, 1/4 c. milk and 1 T. flour over low heat. Stir until blended. Add 8-10 slices Velveeta. Add macarroni and stir until reheated. Serve. (Multiply recipe for larger groups. This a good quantity for a family of four, just to give you an idea of quantity.)
You can add colorings, or hot dog bites. Some kids like colored Goldfish crackers on top.
ANTS ON A LOG is also a good.
Instead of peanut butter, use cream cheese.
Cut kid size celery sticks. Fill each with a spoonful of cream cheese. Top with raisins, or other dried fruit. Healthy and requires NO cooking. The kids can build it themselves. You could give a bowl of various toppings to each table and let the kids build their own.

I'm 24 now, but when I was in Kindergarten we cooked green eggs and ham. We also put heavy cream in a jar, sat in a large circle & took turns shaking the jar until we made butter. Then at it on crackers & bread.
