My wife and I will be having a child soon and we do not want to move to the suburbs. Do you think Chicago (mainly on the North side - Edgewater area) is a good environment to raise a child in? We feel safe but is it safe for children? Are Chicago schools good? Should we send our child to a private school...any recommendations?

you really should be asking this in a forum about Chicago just because if people are not from there they are going to automatically have a crazy answer....I live in the suburbs of Chi. but I feel like Chicago is a fine place to raise a child...It's all about the parenting....teaching your children right from wrong and always listening to them and you can do that no matter where you live! Remember, gangs, drugs, alcohol and trouble can be ANYWHERE!!!

you have to be careful wherever you go. yes some Chicago schools are good. you just have to check them out. every state have some undesirable areas...To me Chicago is a beautiful city.
