'He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary'

~Apostle's Creed

All things are possible with God and he works in mysterious ways. While a virgin birth seems impossible, this is not so with God. If you want to embrace a religion you have to have faith that amazing things like this can happen.

Christians are taught that when Mary was a young girl, around 14/15, an angel, Gabriel, came to her proclaiming the good news that she had found favor with God and she was chosen to carry and give birth to Jesus. Mary says in response 'How can this be for I have had no relations with a man?' The angel states that the holy spirit will decend upon her and she will conceive. Mary accepted (note that she did not have to...she willing chose).
Mary was betroathed to a man, Joseph. Joseph found out and wanted to divorse her quietly. He then had a dream in which he was informed that he was to take Mary as his wife. He did so.
And then there is the nativity in Bethlehem.

NOTE: The Immaculate Conception was not Mary conceiving Jesus! That is a common misunderstanding. The Immaculate Conception is Mary being conceived without sin...just had to clear that up. If you don't believe me, just look it up.

Mary's mother Saint Anne conceived Mary (Immacculate Conception) - meaning Mary was born without original sin. This was in preparation for Mary to become the mother of Jesus. After Mary and Joseph married, in a time an Angel came and announced the upcoming birth of Jesus. Joseph and Mary did not have relations before Jesus was born; Mary was a virgin when Jesus was born.

Long story. Different ideas from different branches of Christianity. I suggest you read some books by Eastern Orthodox. Fr. Ware is a good one.Look on Amazon and then check it out at a library.

She is still a virgin because she never had sex with a man. Having a child without a man doesn't mean that you are no longer a virgin. It is about did she or did she not have intercourse with a man.

FashionGuru ... I'm a fool for trying to answer this question, but I'm going to give it a try.

Being a virgin does not refer to whether a woman is pregnant or having a baby, in my opinion. By the way, I am NOT a doctor.

Being a virgin specifically refers to whether a woman's birth/vaginal canal has been breached by penetration during sexual intercourse. Therefore, if a woman's canal is penetrated for the first time by a doctor performing a medical procedure, that would NOT be considered a loss of her virginity, in my view.

On the other hand, if a woman's canal is penetrated by sexual intercourse, whether it be by her partner or by a mechanical device intended to provide sexual gratification, this circumstance WOULD be considered a loss of virginity.

That's the short answer, but I feel there's more to say about this. Suppose a young woman has never had sexual intercourse. In this case, I'm specifically stipulating that the woman's canal has never been penetrated. But suppose this young woman was very provocative, kissed all the boys she knew, and engaged in many other kinds of sexual gratification OTHER THAN by penetrating her own canal. Would you consider this woman to be a virgin? I wouldn't.

You might ask, "Why would it matter if she's never been penetrated?" Well, I won't waste your time (or mine) by trying to discuss it further. I hope you get the point.

But, back to the Virgin Mary. In addition to not being a doctor, I'm not a theologian, either. As I recall, though, those who believe that Mary was the blessed virgin mother of Christ have the belief that Mary carried and birthed Jesus by the "Immaculate Conception," as they call it. In other words, she was made pregnant by God's will, not by a man.

You want to become more religious? Religiousness is realized by one's faith and by what's in your heart and your mind. If you feel religion will help you to be a better person to yourself and to others, press onward and good luck with it. Faith in a higher being may be just what you need.

As I think back a bit, I'm recalling Garry Moore. He was the host of his own hour-long variety show back in the '50s and '60s, which is before your time, I guess. Among others, he helped give Carol Burnett her start. You've heard of her, maybe? Well, I'm thinking of Garry Moore because of the way he closed his show; he'd say, "Be good to yourself, be kind to one another, and goodbye, out there." Nice words, I think. We should ALL be more kind to one another. Don't you think?

Also, you call yourself a "FashionGuru." Let me suggest this: If you'd capitalize and punctuate the way you were taught in school, you'd be able to add "Literary Guru" to your list of monikers. ;-)

actual, in case you do your analyze, you'll locate that "technology" demands so a lot more desirable faith than any of the things you're talking about. i have not discovered the dinosaur problem because i'd truly placed my mind ability to something that actual has some touching on my existence at present (and a bunch of previous, moldy bones isn't even a blip on my radar). you should study what Wallace Johnson has to say in his e book "The death of Evolution"; that's quite illuminating. The movie "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" is likewise quite something. If the awful international that sterile technology paints is all there is, kill me now. there is basically no aspect to existence if that's all basically an coincidence besides, correct? Theoretically talking, if God might want to create the universe out of not something would or not that's so complicated for Him to do something with something else? (meaning He might want to actual preserve Mary's virginity if He had a concepts to, or advance Jesus from the useless) i'm sorry that you do not bypass in for all the God stuff because you're lacking out on a wealth of happiness that would want to convey countless meaning into your existence. i'd truly stay my existence as if there became a God, and locate out after I died that i became incorrect than stay my existence as if there wasn't a God, and locate out after I died that i became incorrect. ETERNITY: Smoking, or non-smoking?

I don't know why christianity is so coy about Mary becoming pregnant. The Greeks wrote that Zeus came in the form of a swan to rape Leda, then as a bull to rape Europa, etc.. Christians don't really talk about the details. Seems rather silly, doesn't it? God brags about floods, plagues, etc., but is boyish about mentioning sex.

Anyway, if you do some studying about the "immaculate conception", you'll learn that it actually refers to Mary being born without the sin of Eve and that was what made her unique.

More christians should know this, but they don't.

An angel came to mary and told her the holy spirit had her concieve a baby without ever having sex. Jesus was from God, not any man. It says at the end of Matthew 1 that Mary and Joseph waited til Jesus was born before having sex.

Its better to become more spiritual than religious, and you wont find spirituality in a relationship or religion with jesus. just a word of advice try Buddhism or Paganism the world has too many christians already.

Oh and Mary obviously had sex with Joeseph for the more naive.

I refer to her as the "Virgin Mary" not because she remained a virgin even after she gave birth to Christ, but because that's how I view her historically. Kinda like why I call John "John the Baptist," not because he's still baptizing today...but because that's how I view him historically.

I don't believe in the perpetuity of Mary's virginity. I believe her and Joseph had a normal marital relationship like any other married couple after Jesus was born.
