Your boyfriend has whats called "Man Syndrome" 99.9% of us have it. We find it very difficult to pay attention to anything that does not have to do with Sex, Beer, Cars and work. He is not stupid.

I do that to my brother all the time. It must be really annoying for him, because every time he starts talking about a forge or catapult or computer game he's working on, he has to say it twice. I think once it was three times.
I stopped paying attention because whatever was on TV was more interesting to me than whatever he was saying. Not that I don't like him, or even that I'm not entirely interested in his projects, but sometimes he goes on and on. At least your boyfriend lets you know when he didn't catch what you said.
Also, have you ever tried his phone? It's possible he just has really bad reception.

Everytime he says huh, just act like you just noticed the time and you have something to do and get off the phone.
Maybe then he will start listening to keep you on the phone.

lol hey im in pretty the same situation as you are, he's not stupid thats obvious. i learned that alot of guys arent the type to talk on the phone and when they do especially if its something that they're not intrested in theyre not GONNA LISTEN. with my boyfriend he's the same way it seems like he wont pay attention on the phone but when were together in public or something its a totally different story. if you want him to pay attention just talk about stuff that he likes too not only about what you want. alright hope it helps

It might sound a little b*tchy to say it, but maybe the relationship is becoming boring to him. You might make him chase you a little. Flirt a little bit with other guys in front of him. Maybe that'll make him jealous enough to give you way more attention. Guys are like that, they get bored easily. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're a boring person. Guys just like a little excitement in their relationships, and they get bored when they're not trying for anything, when everything comes so easy to them.

So, by him saying "huh", that makes him stupid? Maybe he really has a hearing problem, or you are not making yourself clear, like on this question. Have you tried talking to him about it.

He's sweet thats a plus. But he should be listening to you. You should talk to him about this. You guys need to work this out. If you don't want to break up with him you and him need to work things out.

He probably just doesn't like having extended phone conversations, my girlfriend will keep me on the phone even when there is nothing to say..... Is this often the case here?

Sounds like he is slightly above borderline retarded. He's not half a bubble off...you know, crazy. He's just slow or "mentally challenged." Save yourself anguish down the road and dump him.
