I have 1-2 rum & cokes several nights a week. I only drink late in the evening, after I'm home from work. I don't drink in the morning, I don't sneak drinks at work, I don't get falling down drunk, and I never drive anywhere if I've had a drink. I just like a drink at night to soothe me because my life is always so crazy during the day.

That being said, my significant other thinks I have a drinking problem. I don't believe that I do. Am I in denial?

look back at some of those "canned" questions people ask and if you say yes to any of them they say you have a drinking problem. that is a load of crap. if you cannot say yes to any of them you are a religious zealot. seriously, what single person hasn't come home from work and had a beer/glass of wine with dinner - oh you drank alone so you must be an alcoholic.

i drnk every day. i told my the doctor this because i had to take some medicine that is known to cause liver failure. the doctor didn't tell me i was an alcoholic.

my friend is a doctor and he told me when some one is an alcoholic they ask them questions like how many cases of beer do you drink a day and they say 1.5 or something like that. you are fine.

One gallon of liquor is more than 2 handles or 5 regular 750ml bottles. And as most rum is 35 - 40% alcohol .. this is beyond cause for concern. That would be like 100 beers, heck even if it were Malibu, that would be about 50 .. which is more than many people consume in a month

Alcoholism is a disease that can only be self-diagnosed. Meaning how much or how often or when is irrelevent. What matters is if it's a problem for YOU! If you are comfortable with your intake (and you need to be really honest with yourself about that) then you're fine. If you need to drink several times a week because your "life is so crazy during the day", maybe you should look into some alternative ways of destressing, like yoga or something. If you haven't been doing it long, then I don't think you have one yet. But this will sure lead to that.

Be really careful because alcohol is "really" hard on the liver and can lead to sucrose's of the liver very easily.

Stay healthy thats the most important thing here.
And have a wonderful Blessed New Year !

Can you go a day or two without it? Are you dependent on it? If not, then you don't, but be careful because 1-2 could easily turn into 3 or 4 or more and cause major issues.

Not at all!

You would be an alcoholic if you drank run and coke steadily every night until you passed out and then started again in the morning.

If drinking any alcoholic beverage causes problems in your life, and you can not or will not stop, then you are an alcoholic. That being said, your significant other has a problem with you drinking. Not your boss, or the law, or you parents. If you are married, then try to find out what it is about you drinking that bothers them. The way you act, talk, smell, snore, ect. If you are not married and you are just dating, stop. Don't be with someone that is going to try to control you. Living like that is horrible. You either give in and wait for their next "problem" with you and you give in to that. Or you constantly fight. This person is trying to change you into what they want, instead of finding what they want.

a good way to test it -
1 - do you ever wish you could stop drinking?
2 - do people annoy you if they ask you to stop drinking?
3 - do you ever need a drink in the morning to get over the hangover?
4 - have you ever blacked out and forgotten what you did after drinking?
5 - does your drinking interfere with work or family?

if you answered yes to any of them, you may have a problem.
