I think our legislators are nutty and out of their minds.

NO, if they don't pay taxes then they shouldn't get crap!

Under one condition I would find it OK though...

IF they pay taxes then I don't care who they are (legal, illegal, blue, green)...as long as they follow the laws of our nation and contribute like citizens do...they get can then get benefits.

It is an agreement between Bush and Fox that has to be ratified by Congress before it becomes effective. Write to your Congressmen that you think this is outrageous. It isn't just the 18 months it is the fact that what we give their people is so much more than they would give our people. These agreements only work where the countries have equivilent retirement benefits and roughly the same amount of people going from each country to the other. Also, by applying to ILLEGALS this would be yet ANOTHER magnet to bring them here. We need to dismantle the existing magnets, not build new ones.

It is not only in the agreement, however, essentially the same provisions were in the Senate Immigration bill McCain Kennedy and their croneys want to reindroduce (only with 'fast track' amnesty this time.)

There are a number of issues with this question.

1. As an American Citizen, you are able to draw SS benefits the day you are born. How much depends on how much you've contributed, and reasoning for drawing SS payments.

2. Even if this law was written I HIGHLY doubt it would ever see a vote to be passed. And if it did get voted on, there isn't a congressman or senator in this country that would want his name on public record for having supported this law. Please check further into the law, it may only be proposed at this point.

I worked for 15 years before I went on disability and it took me 4 years to get my disability.. so excuse me if I am not thrilled that people are coming in here as CRIMINALS before they even hit US soil that they can get OUR benefits for doing nothing and not paying in to the system.. My mom is retired on disability and she doesn't qualify for SSI, because she makes a few dollars too much.. she has to pay for her medicare payments which cut her check even more. She worked 2 jobs for 45 years.

Hell no. it's not fair but it's not fair they get welfare and free education either .. the legislators don't give a dam- because it doesn't affect them directly.. so nothing will ever be done .

This law is designed to protect people who work in two countries and pay into two different social security systems. It could even protect you if you decide to move outside the U.S. before you put in your 10 years. I don't know if the U.S. has a treaty like this with Canada - but if it dos, you could marry a Canadian, move to Canada, pay into both country's Social Security systems, and eventually get some benefits from each country.

It's not fair. And for those of you that ask where this information came from, and question it, watch the news & read the newspaper. It proves how crazy of an idea it is because these uninformed people can't beleive it's true.

I used to like Bush but he's too much of a Mexican butt kisser.

It is not law yet but our officials are trying to ram this garbage down the throats of the American people. Maybe we should eliminate their special benefits and have them in the social security system only, then maybe they might not be so ready to destroy the system.
