If you haven't entered a plea yet, you can enter a not guilty plea. There will be a trial date set and this will give you an extension. Then, you can ask for a continuance and this will give you even more time. The judge will usually allow for one continuance without extenuating circumstances. You can enter a guilty or no contest plea at any time and then pay the fine. Or just ask the city attorney's office or district attorney's office for assistance in the matter. You can always use the payment plan. You will have to pay a certain percentage of your fine and then pay the remaining balance in installments.

In many jurisdictions you must go before the judge, enter a plea, & then explain your financial situation, including WHEN you expect to be able to pay. If your proposal is reasonable a judge will usually allow you some additional time.

You might get another extension. You could also ask if they offer a payment plan. Some places do that as well.
