Hi Italian Girl!
I love your country and much prefer being there than in Toronto in the winter.
As mentioned above, we've recently been having very mild weather. Today it's about 7 degrees Celsius and drizzling out.
However, typical weather for this time of the year is usually a few degrees below freezing. According to Yahoo weather next week is supposed to be a bit colder but still above freezing and with more rain.
You probably don't want to load your luggage down with winter boots but bring shoes that would be able to withstand icy slush and maybe even some snow. Definitely pack some warm socks to have in those shoes. (Good leather shoes can be totally destroyed in the winter because of the slush and the salt that we sprinkle on our roads and walkways.)
The other thing about Toronto's cold weather is that we are famous for saying, "It's a damp cold." Translation - You feel a lot colder than the thermometer indicates.
The good thing is that we all have central heat and there's plenty to do indoors. (The poor skiers are not having a fun winter and the ski resorts are having big financial woes.)
Welcome and enjoy your visit.

The weather in Toronto this winter has been strangely warm! It's been about + 10 degrees Celsius for the past three days now, while it's usually in -10 or so this time of year.

It can always change, because January and February are the coldest months. Check www.weathernetwork.ca a week or so before you leave. Bring warm clothes and a jacket in case.

No matter what the forecast is, it can change within the hour. This is Canada.

It could be anywhere from -20 C to 5 C. So come prepared for everything.
