Every Thursday parents are invited to cook with my daughters kindergarten class. I have been reluctant to participate due to the fact that one of her classmates is severely allergic to nuts. He has been sent to the hospital many times this year due to contact with nut.reactions. They have asked that we do not even serve nuts or nut butter for breakfast before sending our children to school. We have even been asked to not use shampoo that might contain nut oils. I need easy recipes that 5 and 6 year olds can participate in. We have a full kitchen to use.
Thank you so much,
Mom who wants to help!

English Muffin Pizza's are always a winner with kindergarten kids and they can put the pizzas together themselves (with supervision of course)

All you need is English muffins, marinara sauce, shredded cheese, and pepperoni

Have each of the children put a tablespoon of sauce on half an English muffin, sprinkle on a small amount of cheese and one or two slices of pepperoni. Put the English Muffins on a baking sheet and bake them in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 6 minutes.

Orange Banana Milk or "Moo Juice"

This milk is packed with nutrition! It is a great way to sneak fruit into a picky toddler's diet or to disguise milk.

1/3 cup (3 oz.) frozen orange juice concentrate
l/2 medium banana
1 2/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon wheat germ (optional)

1. Mix all the ingredients in a blender until foamy.
2. Serve immediately - this does not store, because the bananas turn brown.

Yield: about 3 cups

cook's tip: This is a good way to use bananas that are getting a little too ripe. You can also peel bananas and store them in a resealable plastic bag in the freezer until you are ready to use them. If your child doesn't like a very cold drink let the banana thaw out before using it. The thawed banana will be very soft.

"Purple Cow" Poem & Drink added 5-29-99 Original Author Unknown
I never saw a Purple Cow,
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see than be one.
Poem by: Mr. Burgess "The Purple Cow and Other Nonsense"

For each child figure on 2 oz. of grape juice, 2 oz. of lemon-lime soda, and about 1/4 c. vanilla ice cream . Put about 1 c. of grape juice and 1 c. of ice cream in blender at a time and blend for 15 seconds or less. Fill small paper cups about half full of this
mixture, then add the soda and serve. Make batches until you've got enough for everyone. Kids really liked this and copied down the recipe to take home on their own.

Eat an octopus added 5-27-99 Original Author Unknown

Slit a hot dog from the ends toward the middle, leaving a space in the center that is not slit, then repeat the procedure. You are actually cutting the ends into fourths. When you cook it, it will draw up like an octopus with the slit parts making the 8 legs.
(Be careful with hot dogs are a chocking hazard)

Ocean Blue Vanilla Milkshakes added 5-6-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: (for each milkshake), 3/4 c vanilla ice cream, blue food coloring, 1/4 c 2% milk

Materials: ice cream scoop, tall plastic container for mixing, big spoon, small clear drinking glasses, drinking straws (this would be a good time to use fishy straws)

For each milkshake, place 2 or 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream in you tall plastic container. Let the ice cream sit in your plastic container for about 10 minutes at room temp. Next, have the children put 1 or 2 drops of blue food coloring into the ice
cream and then pour in about one quarter cup of milk. Have the kids use a big spoon to gently stir all of the ingredients together. You may need to add a little more ice cream or a bit more milk, depending on the consistency of your milkshake. Pour your milkshake into a small, clear, drinking glass.

Tasty Stars added 8-13-01 Original Author Unknown

Explain to the children that stars are burning hot. Scientists can tell how hot a star is by its color. The coolest starts are red. Orange, yellow and greenish stars are hotter. White stars are even hotter, and blue stars are the hottest. Cut toasted bread into star-shapes with cookie cutters. Have the children spread jam on their stars. They can choose strawberry jam for a cool star, orange marmalade for an average start, or grape jelly for the hottest star.

Kids love this! We used to serve it in a daycare I worked at long ago. It's easy to make, and it's fun to eat. Just make sure you have hand wipes available!

MONKEY BREAD

3 packages of buttermilk biscuit tubes
1 cup sugar (divided)
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar

Take 3 packages of buttermilk biscuit tubes (10 per roll) and cut each roll into 4 pieces. Drop roll pieces into 1 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Drop sugar-coated pieces into a well buttered Bundt pan (don't squish roll pieces when placing them in the Bundt pan).

Put 1/2 cup of the left-over sugar/cinnamon mix and 1/2 cup packed brown sugar and 1 cup of butter (2 sticks) into a small saucepan.

Bring this mixture just to a boil; remove from heat immediately. Carefully drizzle over the roll pieces.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Cool slightly in an upright position, then tip pan over onto a plate to remove monkey pull-apart bread.

Cut up few banana's and put the slices sperated on a pan, then take vanilla Icing and drape the banana's in them, then take those popping candies that sometimes come in kid cuisines and let your duaghter sprinkle them over the slices of banana's, then put them in the fridge so the frosting kind of hardens and by morning they will be ready to take to Kindergarden! And each Vanilla Icing and popping candy covered banana slice is like a litte cookie, my kids love it!
