Yes mam sweet ice tea is drink of choice in the south, I am from Southern GA, and if you are from the south and you don't like sweet tea, then you are not really southern. It's like the mothers milk of the south, lol. And you know people up North only serve unsweetned tea in their restaurants? I didn't know that until I visited a restaurant in Ohio and asked for sweet tea, and they looked at me like I was crazy. It's funny how different parts of Our country are so different.

History: According to a Miami Herald article, iced tea was invented by an Indian tea merchant who couldn't sell his hot
beverage at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.

Plug: Tell your local fast food restaurants you would like sweet tea. Almost every restaurant in the South (not including the peninsula of Florida) does.

Although hot tea had its origins in China, iced tea is purely an American invention. The first site gives an American tea timeline. I also found a site that traces the roots of hot tea in China.

There is a common misconception (which is actually posted in the second site) that iced tea was invented at the World Fair in 1904, but that's when it was popularized and commercialized. There are recipes from long before, dating back to the 1830's.

I hope this helps!!

I'm not sure, but I think the idea of making sun tea is a southern thing. The brittish have had tea for years, but I'm pretty sure they drink theirs hot.

Sun Tea is a traditional southern drink, but I don't know if it originated there.

Sort of. But southerners put a LOT of sugar in theirs and call it Sweet Tea. Iced Tea is just iced tea anywhere else unless you personally dump the sugar in it.

I would have to say yes. I grew up in south-eastern Virginia and every place you went- there was sweet tea available. If you ordered a tea at a restaurant, you automatically were served with sweet iced tea... Now... I moved up to Connecticut. I ordered a tea at a restaurant- I was served hot tea with creamer. EW I was like....may I have iced tea please? And I got unsweet iced tea. EW =)

Just my experiences!
