This is something I discuss with my 13 yr old son, we are both very for this decision.,we have both signed our organ donor cards as I think everyone should.
I would love to know after I am gone my organs have gone towards saving anothers life.

Although I am listed on my driver's license as an organ donor, I am very conflicted about it. I do not mind other people having the benefit of parts and building materials I am no longer using... But the public health ramifications of solid organ donation bother me.
The number of people out there who are immune suppressed is growing alarmingly, and I worry that the habit of solid organ donation may lead to epidemics that kill more people in the long run than the lives saved.
I wonder about the staggering cost of organ transplants and continued care for the immune suppressed in a world where people still cannot get the sort of care that extends useful and enjoyable life without significant social risk - like hip and knee replacements, foot repair and dentures. Perhaps by donating my organs I contribute to poor priorities in health funding.
If, on the other hand, I do not donate, how much longer will burned people suffer, or even how many more will die who could have good lives? How many blind people will not see? Where will diabetics get islet cells? How will tisssue cultures be established? Where will the ground bone, ligaments and tendons come from to repair orthopedic injuries well and return people to an enjoyable life? All of these things are overwhelmingly worthwhile...
I contain some of that donated ground bone, and I really appreciate it... But I would not seek or accept a solid organ donation, because I do not want to live an immunocompromised lifestyle, and I would not consider the monetary and social cost justified.

On my drivers license I've said that I will be an organ donor when I'm dead. I think that is a good thing. I don't need the part of my body wanted anymore, so why not put it to use for someone else.

I'm not an organ donor because the person's family usually end up in debt to pay for all the hospital bills. If there were doctors out there willing to perform transplants with no cost to the patient then I would consider it.

I would not be a organ donor because some times you end up saving a criminal life or a rapist which iam perfect without but some people say yes to this because they say iam dead whats the point of keeping all your organs when i die i want to go complete

I'm an organ donor. The way I see it, if I die in some tragic accident; and my organs are still good--why not put them to good use? I don't need them anymore, I'm dead! Give them to someone who can benefit from them.

Well, it's a little expensive. It's probably better to start out as an accordian donor, then move up to a piano donor, and then to an organ donor when you can afford it!

When I die I won't be needing them any more so why not? One thing concerns me though. My wife has cervical fusion and they used donor bone. It cost a couple thousand dollars for the bone. Does it cost that much to process the bone or is someone taking advantage?? I don't want something I donate being sold for a profit...

I think if you can save a life or make another person's life better by donating an organ up on your death, it is a wonderful tribute to yourself as well as a most humane gesture.

I plan to be one and all of my family knows of my intentions. What good are my organs going to do me when I am dead. I would rather someone else have them that needs them.... ya never know... I could be the reason another person lives.
