they spell alot of things wrong or replace words with other ones. Some don't even spell out the entire word.

like they said the word "galaxy" and they wrote only a "g". i've also seen stuff where they replaced the word like relics with artifacts.

i just saw the most ridiculous thing. They had a commercial on and they just put random letters like GGGGGGGLUWEIGGUDOSjUHGGGGGGGG and i was like what?!

It sounds to me like you don't have that great of reception on your TV. If the picture is fuzzy, it's going to mess up the closed captioning. Other times it is messed up for human error. This is usually seen during live television shows as someone is actually typing all those words as they are spoken. They don't always type them out verbatim and may shorten some things to keep up. As far as the ASDLDLLLFFLKFKFFF gibberish, that happens sometimes when a commercial which does not have closed captioning is aired. If the TV station flips from a program that was in the middle of sending some captioning to a program (like a commercial) that doesn't, you'll get gibberish like that sometimes.

Sometimes it is a live prompter who is typing them. The prompter is only human and does make many mistakes. I agree that it is very funny when they are way off but they do there best. They try to keep up with the words on the television but are some are very fast. Most of the time they are not the best and have many typos but they do know a lot of abbreviations for the words they use.

I believe they are using computer speech recognition programs. Some words are mumbled and even a human cannot know for sure what they said. Others sound the same, like here and hear.
I believe the best speech recognition is about 95% accurate. This means that one in 20 words can be wrong.

most of the time this is done on purpose as an inside joke to the show. It means something funny or as a tribute to the family of the show
