I recieved a Dachund for New Years. She is 98 (in dog years). She stunk, so I gave her a bath with dog shampoo. She started to stink AGAIN a little after I gave her a bath. What should I do?

The doxies should be bathed ideally no more than once a month. Any more than that can dry out their skin and coat. Old dogs get kind of stinky, more than likely the smell is not something that you can wash off, rather its coming from her mouth, ears, or other areas. To make her less offensive and minimize the bathing there are colognes and freshening sprays that you could use inbetween bathing that are made just for dogs.

Hi Jaquelynnm!!
She is 98 (in dog years). NOT BAD!!! How Old are you??

Most Dachshunds require regular brushing but need to be bathed infrequently (less than once a month). Dachshunds have been known to roll around in smelly things, however, which is a characteristic of their hunting instincts – they are trying to mask their scent so their prey won't smell it. If this is the case, a good bath might be just what your little girl needs.

You should nevert bathe any dog more than once a month unless the dog has a diagnosed skin condition that requires more regular bathing. Too many baths can break down the natural oils in the dog's skin and ruin its coat.

If your dog has chronic "stinkiness" it may have a skin condition or other illness which is causing the stench. Have your vet check the dog for an underlying cause of the smell.

Well the best shampoo to use are the dog shampoos labeled with somthing like 'smells like ...' so this will cover up the smell.

Also, what hair type is your dog? If your dashie is shorthaired, then give a bath only once a month or else they will get dry skin and maybe dandruff.

Only as needed - you don't want to bath her too frequently or you will mess up her pH balance and in the long run.. she will smell
