Well you should believe that the bible is real. You can buy it at any bookstore. However there is no good reason to believe that the stories in it are factual.
The most I would believe from the bible is that Jesus was a real person. However, even that is not certain.

why not? The Bible is the inspired word of God. This is proved out by the fact that through the centurys, the text has changed very little from the earlies writings available. (those that say otherwise, haven't studied it out, they're just trying to find fault with anything to do with God).
If you look at the prophecies about the Messiah (Jesus Christ) in the book of Isaiah, you can see plainly that they've come true. There's a lot more evidence to support the Bible being true than there is for any other book written in history.
I do believe the Bible is the word of God spoken through men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write what they've written. I believe God created the earth and everything in it in 6 literal 24 hour days. (for those who disagree, why would it take Him longer? and, couldn't He have created the earth with the appearance of age? Why do you insist on trying to fit God's word with science instead of trying to fit science to God's word? He was there...they weren't). Ok, I'm back off my soapbox now.

Its your choice whether or not to believe in the Bible. Some people choose to view it as literal, others see it as mostly symbolic or a combination of both. Some favor the Apostolic books, some the gospels. If you are a Christian you have likely been taught that it is the Word of God, though it is not written by God. Whether you are a believer or not, you can still read the Bible, it does not mean you are forced to believe it...that again, is your choice.

The Bible has some good things in it... especially the 4 gospels. But the idea that this is the "word of God" and people must believe is a questionable position. Jesus Christ himself used the term "Word of God" in the parable of the Sower and he was speaking long before the new testament was composed. So whatever he was talking about, it is unlikely that it included the books that were composed AFTER his appearance on earth.

Belief in the bible is a matter of faith. A lot of what religious people believe is based on faith, not on proveable facts. Those who believe in the bible and those who don't can each claim a lot of "facts" to back up their belief, but in the long run there is not much scientific proof either way. There are millions of people in the world who believe in other religious books such as the koran. Who's to say who is right or wrong?

You're going to get a bunch of crazy fundamentalists answering this question with responses that do not make much sense. Believe in the Bible if that's what speaks to your heart. Keep in mind the content of the Bible, however. http://www.near-death.com/experiences/origen11.html
I believe it is a book full of important lessons but should not be taken literally.

It depends on how you read the Bible. If you go with the fundamentalist way and read it all as historical events, you might not want to believe it. Or you could use exegesis and look into the deeper meanings of the stories. Instead of reading Adam and eve as a story of original sin (even though the idea of original sin did not surface until hundreds of years after the story was written) read it as a story of children (new in the world) growing up.

Peace!
Because it is the word of God in the words of men. The Bible does not always teach. Many things in the Bible were written for historical, geographical, poetic or other reasons. It is the revelation contained in the scriptures that is important.

if you are happy not believing in anything, more power to you. If you are looking for something to believe in, you ought to look all over the place, and not just the mainstream religions.
or you could be an atheist, or an agnostic.
i guess the only reason you should believe it is if you feel you need it.

Well, don't believe in it just because people tell you to. How do you feel when you read it? Do the things you learn from it make you want to be a better person, or just the opposite? I would say if it helps you out, believe it.
