I know Jesus talks of Love often, and we are told God loves us because of various things he has done, but has either ever just said I LOVE YOU? Thanks.

John 21:15-18 When they finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these {other men love me}?" Peter answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Then Jesus said to Peter, "Take care of my lambs. " Again Jesus said to Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Then Jesus said to Peter, "Take care of my sheep. " A third time Jesus said, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was sad because Jesus asked him three times, "Do you love me?" Peter said, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you!"

God Bless You

Not verbatum. But more than implied. Remember, though, you are reading a translation from Hebrew to Greek to Roman to Old English to New English.

Here is where God saying I love you is implied, and I believe there is no greater love....

1 John 4:9-10

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us; and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

That is a very western construction of the phrase. The eastern construction would be a bit more "floral" A good example is: "Oh Jerusalem, How I long to gather you under my wings."

Read through the psalms and pay particular attention to where God describes Himself.

Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,"
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10

Yep! He said it to that woman he met at the well. The guy was highly romantic, but because Christians are conservative and less romantic they removed that text!!
