How can I correct this problem?

I receive a "This installation package could not be opened" error on all MSI installer packages I try to open. If I need to install an update, what is the update?

Go here and download Windows Installer then install it...sounds like it might be corrupt:

that usually means that the particular MSI file is corrupt. Try getting it again from the source - like wherver you downloaded it, etc. Otherwise, it is most likely corrputed and unusable.
