i'm 13 and pretty small for my age. i weigh about 80 lbs and am still not 5 foot yet. my dumb parents still make me ride in a booster seat even though i'm old enough not to have one. i have tried to argue with them but i have not been able to get them to change there minds. what can i do to fix this?

Make a pesentation ( I like power points ) showing them you are old enough, and are tall enough to sit in the front seat, and shouldn't have to sit in a booster seat. I'm 84 lbs., 4"9 , and 11 years old. I'm not exactly old enough, but I'm tall enough and weigh enough! Im 2 out of 3 and once I made a presentation my parents saw it my way! Good Luck! I hope I helped!

Uhm, if you are like 72-75lbs then technically you probably should be in a booster seat.
Granted its real embarassing.
Time to have the old, "I realize I am small for my age but lets not get rediculous here and give me a complex that I will end up spending $10,000 in therapy trying to clear up."
While it may be recomended that a person up to 80lbs ride in a booster seat..... there are very few out there that do, whether 8 or 15.

there were people in here the other day saying new laws in regards to child restraints had changed and that all children under the height of 5' must be in a booster seat. These were Americans( I'm Aussie) and I don't know which states they mentioned but this may apply where you live. Maybe look into whether H harnesses are available where you live and are acceptable because your right at your age it would be embarrassing but your parents don't want to be charged with endangering a minor. I have given you a link to look at what a h harness is if you don't know

It all depends on what state you are in. Check your state laws. If the law says 80 pounds then you should sit in a booster seat. A girl I know still sits in a booster seat because of her size, she is in the 5th grade I think. My own daughter who is two was just able to be turned around in her car seat because she was not 20 pounds yet. For my son, the doctor said he could ditch the booster seat once he was able to bend his legs at the edge of the vehicle seat. With the way people drive these days, I would not complain too much.

Listen, as much as it bites, they're concerned about your safety. There's a possibilty of where the seatbelt sits on your body, if there's an accident, that it can really hurt you. (As in, break your neck or decaptiate you.) I'm under 5 feet tall, and if I was a kid, I'd qualify for a booster seat. (I'm 32 years old) And, sometimes, I think I could use one - the seatbelt sometimes hits me right in the throat - where your Adam's Apple would be. (Not real comfy, lemme tell ya!)
Talk to your parents - let them know that where you want to be safe, a booster seat is dorky. See if there's a way to compromise - maybe get a seatbelt attachment or something to lower it to where it won't choke you.
Good luck!!

My son is about to turn 8 years old. According to law in my state, he should be eligible to wear a lap belt this next month. BUT he is tiny and weight-wise he would not be safe without the booster seat. So he is going to be staying in it for a while yet.
If you are 80 lbs, you should be heavy enough to be out of the booster. Talk to them about it. Do some research on the net about what the car seat laws are in your state and share it with your parents.

OMG Zach I knew this was gonna happen to some poor child somewhere. The only thing you can do is to research thru the internet the laws in your state. If they say you dont have to have a booster if you are 13 then your parents may relent. But if it says a certain weight you can do nothing until you reach that weight.

Okay dude thats just weird. I am also 80 pounds and I am about that hight and I lost my carseat at age 5. Tell them to reaserch and I bet not one website will say that a 13 year old at ANY hight will sit in a carseat. The law is you sit in a carseat intill your 50 pounds and 4 feet tall.

As long as your taller that 4'9, they can't put you in a car seat. That's not cool. My son is 3 and in a booster seat. You are ten years older than he is. Your parents must be on something to keep doing that to you. I mean I'm short for a 19 year old (4'11). Tell your parents to lighten up or don't ride with them.

I don't know what you can do, but I'm pretty sure that you are big enough to get out of the booster seat. Seems a bit ridiculous.
