I just watched something on coffee last night on National Geographic! The documentary included Starbucks. It is not just more successful, it is the most successful! Starbucks Coffee Company is the leading retailer, roaster and brand of specialty coffee in the world! Starbucks makes as much profit as the coffee selling manufacturers such as Folgers, Maxwell, Nestle, and Sanka! Their success is based upon the specialty coffee. That's it in a nutshell.

Firstly, I agree with Halley and Konrad too. I think they start with planning strategy. They have main strategies. First one is to establish standards. If you go anywhere in the world, you will drink the same coffee. Even in the same cup. Because they use own cups. They provide the supply by importing. Other main strategies include two things: shops are very close to customers, people can find them whenever they want, and the prices are at a middle level that everyone can buy. With this strategy as, in time the customer loyalty occurs.

I read in Forbes , they explained in detail with 3 topic as A Place For Everyone, Ambiance, Consistently Convenient.
Also in Business insider, they explained in a summary with 11 features.
I hope I could help.

I live in Washington state and there seems to be one on every corner...literally. I have seen 3 at the same intersection. They now sell their coffee in grocery stores. Even the small hicktown I live in has 3 Starbucks.
