Theoretically, any additional splice adds attenuation to the signal, so you would lose signal quality. However, the quality lost is, in most cases, negligible. In other words, you would probably not notice it at all. However, for best results, you can go buy a longer coaxial cord. They are not super expensive. Or, you could call the cable company, maybe they would give you a longer cable if you ask. However, there is no "need" to speak of as far as replacing the wire.

RE:
Can i splice a coaxial cable wire for my TV without losing signal quality?
The cable that the installers put in is too short for where I want to put my TV. Can I get a splicer like for a phone, or do I need to replace the wire at the source?

When you see any of the hundreds of cable tv trucks in a parking lot or on the side of road or at McDonalds, ask them if they would sell you a barrel and what ever size extension that you need. I worked as a line technician for the cable company for ten years and never refused a question like that. Plus, I never took any money for it either. Offer the technician a cheeseburger and you will surely get what piece you need. Also, you won't have any attenuation by "extending" the cable with a barrel. You may have attenuation the longer the extension. At 450 MHZ you will have approx. 4 and a half db loss at 100 feet.

If done with the proper connectors and splicer you won't notice any loss of signal. Go to the Home Depot electronic section and get them. But the easiest way would to just buy a longer cable with the connectors already on each end. It'll save the time and hassle.

It depends on the length of cable. If you're talking about 6-10 feet then you shouldn't loose any signal quality. If you're talking 50-100 feet, that's a different story!

You use what is called a barrel connector to join coaxial cables. There is negligible effect on signal. They are inexpensive; get them at Radio Shack or a hardware store.
