Do you mean like free wireless access? I like it as a customer because, well I don't feel like the hotel is being cheep. I hate it when you go to a hotel and they say they have wireless or just internet and then you find out you have to register and pay with you credit card. That makes me thing the hotel is being cheep. It is a little perk that a hotel can give there guest. It doesn't cost the hotel a lot but it makes the guest happy and I know I am more likely to come back to a hotel that has in then that doesn't.
I also think that a hotel should generally have a business centre with computers with internet for travelers with out a laptop so they can send a quick email when they need to. Some hotels charge for this and it doesn't bother me as much as long as it isn't a lot. But again if it is free it makes me happy.

I’ts an important service this days. Any businessman and many people on a simple vacation needs it. Like a hotel that gives an access to a swimming pool or just towels. People will more likely choose those hotels that do give such a service.
Another thing is the publicity within their Wi Fi service when their guests are accessing it, or just a pay service.

The hotel becomes more appealing to business class guests because of their need to access the office at any given moment.
Also provides access to e-mail in a world where people use e-mail for constant communications with family and friends
