Nope. Believing in God doesn't mean "believing in religion"
True GOD resides in the Heart and Soul of the PERFECT believer, and religions resides in the men-made customization and classifications in the society.
People thinking of categorizeing believers into various religions cannot be pointed out as a TRUE believer of GOD. It makes them do it only for their thirst for POWER to rule above someone... It is the "DIVIDE AND RULE" policy.
GOD doesn't want u to be a HINDU, MUSLIM, SIKH, CHRISTHAN or whatever they call themselves...in their own classifications........
If u want to find GOD then seek him in ur heart.....not on temples or church or mosque...think that u r a earthling....u r a human being.....u r a homo-sepian,....not a hindu, muslim or christhan.

What a pleasant surprise , most of your answers seem to be saying religion isn't necessary . I m atheist I dont believe in God I dont care if any one else does or not, if they do good luck to them. My main concern is the religion bit, and the
religious 'teachers' or leaders, all pulling in different directions!
I can understand and even respect any one wanting to have a God , there is no way they could convince me, and there is no way I could ever convince them, so thats no problem as far as I'm concerned !
Now when we go onto religion, thats a different kettle of fish altogether isnt it? I cant go into too many details because I've just about had my quota of violations on the subject, I will say believe in your God if you need to, but how any one could believe in any of the differing religions, is just way beyond my understanding!

Depending on whether you think God exists in this world and can be reached by people in prayer etc., or makes Himself known, you would be a theist, and if you just thought God created the world, and doesn't involve Himself in it, a deist. Do you think you have no sin? Or do you think you do have sin? That's the defining difference that I believe Christians have. (I don't like the word, though, because of how many misuse it).

Heck no, religion is man made, God is not.
For awhile I hated being called a Christian because I knew the stigmatism it put on me but I never stopped believing in God or Jesus I just didn't want to be grouped with people who acted the way the did/do. But there are very good Christian's out there.

The difference of religion categorize who you see as your god. If you say Jesus then one assumes christianity, while budda or selasie will tell fif you are muslim or rastafarian. The minute you say who your god is then it is assumed you belong to a certain group and should follow the principles of that group. I don't believe in religeon and try to avoid such topic as much as possible. It is just the way things are, whatever God you chose to worship automatically defines your religion even if you prefer it not ot be so.

Pra: Religion has absolutely nothing to do with "believing in God".
Religion by definition, can mean the worship of any person, place or thing . Worship of self, booze, drugs, sex, intellectualism, work, career, education, the biggie $ , etc. , etc, etc. in part, categorizes religion. Believing IN God entails a relationship with Him, with His son, Jesus Christ called SPIRITUALITY. Religion is not Christianity. True Christianity is based on spirituality in a relationship with Jesus Christ - it's WHO YOU ARE. Religion is what you DO ... a vast difference !!! This is why Jesus says true believers are all ONE in Him.

NO!
i believed in God before i joined any church, even though my family was catholic by tradition. My mother was athiest so I didnt really have any, or very much religious training. I was closer to being an athiest or a devil worshipper before i decided that I wanted to be Saved and have a better way of life.
When that Angel appeared in my bedroom it was because I began to read the bible and believed what i was reading. Not because of any doctrines or dogmas that i was taught except for what was in the gospel of matthew.
when i saw that angel, i Knew there was a God.
When i saw the visions of jesus I knew what i saw proved there was a messiah, and i believed his name to be Jesus.
as for categorizing believers into things, it is written that the axe is laid at the root of the tree. ready to cut down the tree and burn it in the fire.
it also says in a couple different books, that people are gathered into sheeves to be ready to burned.
in the new testament it is written somewhere that even people who confess jesus as lord with their lips they are from him in truth in their heart.
Religion defines what a person believes, but people Condemn other religions according to their bigotry. Some people study and come to conclusions that other religions are going to hell. but its nto the people in the religion that will go to hell, its the people that will NOT repent or believe at all that will be destroyed. Those who worship false gods will be, the muslims call this idolatry. Those that dont believe in jesus will go to hell because jesus already said they are condemned already. of course he also said repent and believe. that would change everything.
the jews call everyone else gentiles. Of course all gentiles and pagans and the heathen are not saved because they are not barmitsvah. But it was the sons of abraham who murdered a family that had just circumsiced themselve but had a member in their family that raped one of their sisters.
Everyone has a woodchip in their own eye and everyone points to the logs in others.
All the while there is a messiah in heaven calling down to the earth to repent and believe. but the spirit testifies that no one will listen.

No, I believe in God but I do not practice any religion. Religion is man-made and, if you believe in God, he quite obviously isn't.

I believe in some sort of god, but not the god that is preached about in any religion. Religion was made by man to screw other men out of their money (don't give me a thumbs down there Catholics!). I think that following the god that someone told you to follow is not nearly as spiritual as finding god/spirituality in your own way...
