Depending on the size of your "indoors," a small or medium-sized mixed breed (mutt) from an animal shelter would almost certainly be the best choice for you. Most shelter dogs are extremely loving and friendly, almost as if they're brimming over with gratitude for being adopted. Some can be a little shy and need understanding and TLC to let their personalities blossom. Mutts are also much healthier than purebreds (lower vet bills for you), generally speaking. When you adopt a mutt from an animal shelter, you're getting a good dog and saving a life as well. Their snob-value is zero, but everything else is very much in their favor! Best of luck!

For a smaller dog, a pomeranian is an excellent choice, they are adorable and extremely people oriented. They should be indoors all of the time.
For a bigger dog, an australian shepherd is a great dog, as long as you have time to exercise them. They are very easily trained, and they love to make people happy. They do well inside, and they are cuties.

In addition to in-doors mainly and friendly with people, are you looking for a dog that requires lots of walking? What type of groooming are you willing to do? What does your household consist of? What level of trainability do you want?

These are very important questions to ask. Answer this and I can help better. Also be aware that when looking for dogs, you need to be aware of the possible health issues.

Have a dog mostly indoors? I hope you are not leaving your dog outside the majority of the time. Dogs need attention and they hate being outside alone unless if their owner is playing with them. If you keep your dog outside majority of the time, then when you bring him inside the dog WILL be very jumpy because he/she will be too excited. Keep your dog inside and when you want to take him outside you should go with the dog and play.

I would suggest getting a small breed..try Lhapsa Apso, they are similar to the Shitzu but about 5 pound bigger.

Just remember something, dogs have personalities and feelings...imagine if you were left outside alone and you could see through the window of what is suppose to be your home and see your new family being a family without you...they get very sad. Dogs are not our pets, they're our family.

The way I treat my dog is the way parents would treat their child...my dog is my child and he is so loved by my husband and I.
