To avoid Labor have a Buffet table with the food artfully arranged and small plates on either side so guests may serve themselves. When I was married I chose a pasta Buffet instead of a sit down dinner - this kept me from having to figure out seating and diet concerns. Weddings can be stressful but sometimes making some casual choices make it less so and more fun. Good Luck!

forget it. if you want hors d'ourves and 3 course meal at least, you are dreaming. The best thing is to possibly have it in the daytime during the beginning of the week when the places are rarely used. You might get a deal. But $34 per person without tips or anything else is not going to get you very much.

OMG passed hor d'ourves ARE going to kill you, that's definitely for the wealthy! UNLESS that is all you are having. It's called a champagne reception. You offer only champagne and hors d'ourves but to keep it cheap you have stations instead of passing them. That way you don't have to pay a wait staff. But if you are having a full course meal, or a buffet, the eliminate the hors 'dourves all together.

That's about $34 per person. Something wrong if you can't cater for that amount. Having lived in USA I have some idea of things. How about those platters you can get made up at the supermarket deli. I would not bother with waiters, just someone to lay out the food as it's consumed because I would go for buffet style. Outsource your catering from different sources and pick it up yourself. Subway does huge catering sandwiches I think. You could have different snacks on the tables for the guests. As for the buffet, go for things like curry and rice or chinese or Thai. So many takeout places do catering size packs. Go and visit them and see what's on offer. Rent some serving dishes to put them in. You should still have change left in your back pocket. Good luck!

well...if you have $2400 for food alone that that should be plenty. you can get a nice meal for like $20 a plate and that still keeps you under the $2400 mark. dont do the hors d'ourves. the meal should be plenty and if people fill up before the meal then the meal money is pretty much a waste. if you really want to have something before the meal then make them yourself. my mom did the food for my entire wedding. it was great and cheap.

$35 a head should get you a starter soup or salad....choice of prime rib, chicken breast and salmon ,veg, potato or rice. Plus a lovely dessert providing its not expensive like cheesecake. If you have family style or buffet that cuts down the cost and you can offer more of a menu.
Plated dinners always cost more to execute.
