My cousin was sweeping the floor and when she turned the sweeper on a big cloud of dust blew in her face. That night she started coughing and has been for almost 3 days now. She also has a sore throat. her doctor is out of town until the 15th so she has to wait. Does anybody know if it might be serious or if she should just wait.

The best way to reduce the discomfort of sore throat is to take pain meds like Tylenol or Advil (acetominofen or Ibuprofen).

Warm beverages and soups are also soothing to the throat.

Gargling with warm salt water is effective at soothing and also for helping to reduce the viral infection. Good oral hygiene when you are sick is also good -- brushing your teeth and using antiseptic mouthwash (like Listerine brand) are helpful to reduce the level of viruses in your mouth.

There are also tons of products such as throat lozenges and throat sprays that are soothing. For lozenges, I have found that the most effective active ingredient is:
hexylresorcinol
But there are not very many products that have it. Instead you will probably be able to find products containing other active ingredients.

The brand Cepacol is generally the most effective lozenges available (in the USA). Here is their website:

sounds like she can wait, probably got a sinus infection from the dust blowing at her. The membranes are most likely irritated and so you get post nasal drip, which can cause you to cough and cough. Get an over the counter medicine to keep you going till the doctor, it might fix the problem for you and save you some big bucks.

She might be allergic to dust. I am. Also, dust has alot of allergens and bad stuff for you. It probably triggered a reaction, and it probably isn't very serious. She should go to the doctor anyway. Also, she could go to a pharmacy and ask what the pharmacist recommends. They are usually very knowledgeable. I hope she feels better, and good luck!

Its common, try to get a medication that is strictly an expectorant like Guifenisen and some throat losengers. It might take a few days but it should clear up. If she starts breaking a fever though you should have her seen by a doctor (it doesnt need to be her's just one that is availible).

This is probaly because, some dust got stuck in her lungs or something, and she had a bad reaction to it.
I doubt it's serious, but you can never be too careful.

I would tell her to go ahead and go to a walk in clinic now -just to check things out and to get her some relief .... just to make sure (they can even test her for allergies there) and when her doctor gets back she can make a follow up with him...
