When we get jealous or the other person gets jealous, its usually because of low self esteem or trust issues. I know being protective of your partner is human nature that could be confused with someone being jealous.
If someone says they are jealous because they love you, rule out all the above factors to make sure the person isn't being over possessive. That ties in with the trust factor.

I haven't thought about it, but it's human instinct. We have a constant crave for attention and we often use try-to-make-them-jealous tactics to fulfill that craving. Not everyone gets jealous, though. Have you ever heard of the "jealous type"? It's an acquired behavior. If someone is really possessive and likes to have things to themselves, they are easily bothered by sharing their mate with others as well (even if it's only on a friend basis). This behavior is deeply rooted in how a person was raised. If they were raised not having to share or having to share too much (i.e. lots of brothers and sisters, limited toys, limited parent attention), they get pretty defensive of what they consider to be their "property", thus creating jealousy.

If we do not have enough self confidence, then we become jealous because we see everyone else as a threat to the relationship with the person we prize.
If we have self confidence we know either 1) that person will be loyal to me or 2) I can do just fine by myself so let him go.
Jealousy doesn't always happen.

Insecurity, lack of self-worth, lack of self-esteem make people jealous.. If you are sure of your self-worth, not arrogant, but just proud of who you are and knowing you are a loving person and you know you are doing all you can do for the person you love, you should not be jealous. People who lack some sort of self-worth become jealous of anyone talking to a loved one in fear anyone is better than them and can take that person away from them.

being jealous,i think,is due to lack of self confidence or that u don't trust ur love.if u have self confidence then u will know that u r the best and that no other person can compete with u.if u trust ur love, then u will be sure that whatever comes on his way,or whomever comes in his way,he will be faithful coz he loves u,wants u,and he is not ready to take any alternative,he's sure u're the world to him,coz u are the best, and not coz u are perfect, sometimes we love to complete our love's incomplete parts,,that's how we become 1,exactly like the the puzzle.

Its just part of being human. Everyone feels jealous whether they like it or not. If you say you are never jealous or never get jealous, your lying.

If you really like or love someone in a sexual way you experience jealously if they are the giver or receiver of an other's attention because you want that person and all their attention for yourself. You don't want them to be the object of anyone else's desire. Why? It's all down to biology and DNA and the desire to reproduce your genes.
