Lemon Juice! Also, check this out, it's called Singer's Tea:
(Serve warm. Sipping is recommended.)
1 fresh ginger root
1 can apple juice concentrate (6 oz.)
1 Fresh lemon
1/4 tsp. Cayenne
1/3 cup honey
Chop ginger root in 1/4 inch slice rounds (about 8 to 10 inches of the root) and boil (simmer) 45 minutes. Add cayenne, honey, lemon and apple juice concentrate to taste.
This tea warms and soothes the throat, cuts mucous and stimulates circulation. Singer’s Tea is great to drink during a recording session.

I'm in chorus YO. First of all, YOU HAVE TO WARM UP YOUR VOCAL CORDS.
Sing a lot of mini-songs and yeah, stretch your neck, arms and stuff. Basicly, sing and shake, lol.
A good way to warm up is to sing songs that involve you going super low, then going super high, just sing any note and emphasize it and exaggerate.
Every morning when I know I have Chorus first period at school, I always drink HOT tea, if you drink hot water, it'll dry up your throat. Or you can drink some HOT milk, but I refer tea or whatever, Jasmine tea or Korea Ginseng Tea is good and not that bad, the Korea Ginseng Tea is better though. And you're good to go! Do that before warming up and stuff and it'll be easier!

Try drinking honey in a little hot water to soothe your vocal chords. If you had more time a voice coach and exercises help lessen the 'screechiness'. Good luck.
