Oh I am very interested in them. Religious and Spiritual people affect the world every day, and not always in a good way.

I think NH explained it eloquently and chippy played the part of the devil's advocate quite well

I am an atheist who does not believe in spirits. I am fascinated (extremely interested) that otherwise knowledgeable people believe in such things. I like to see what different people think about these subjects. In many cases, I think I can help people to understand alternative views, which can actually lead to learning. I always try to be respectful.

However, I sometimes ignore requests such as "For christians only..." There are no such restrictions in Yahoo Answers, so if I have something useful to say, I will usually say it nevertheless. One of the great things about an open forum like this, is that it is indeed open. If you want to discuss things among a restricted group, then you are at the wrong place.

I hope that helps.

There is a difference between religion and spirituality that many Christians don't see, it seems: Religion: a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
Here is the definition of spirituality: incorporeal or immaterial nature. Predominantly spiritual character as shown in thought, life, etc.; spiritual tendency or tone. One does not have to believe in any organized religion or even in god to be spiritual in nature. I see spirituality as a heightened sense of emotional satisfaction and that can be gained by listening to Mozart or listening to the sound of a waterfall or seeing your baby for the first time or falling in love.

Because the category is 'Religion & Spirituality', not 'Believers in Religion and Spirituality'. look at any other category and you will see people asking and answering on both sides of an issue, not only Pros or Cons. For some reason religious people tend to be offended if you don't agree with them.

They are secretly interested or they wouldn't be here. Lots of people are embarrassed to admit that to a real live person so they come here. Beneath all the beligerence may be a real desire to know what it's all about.

Atheist have some valid questions.

They are not interested in spiritual things, but they want to make sure that nobody else does either.

I have yet to here how you have come about your beliefs that there is no God. And I could not care, you have chosen your way, I have chosen mine.

You confuse a lack of belief with a lack of interest.

There are many reasons to let people who are underexposed to non-believers know how we reached our conclusions and encourage them to explore free-thought on their own.

For if we don't let them know we exist, they'll think the world agrees with their attempts to turn the USA into a theocracy and destroy our rights.

Because there are plenty of Christians who want to shove their beliefs down our throats. We shove back!!
