Started one week ago in one ear. Comes and goes every second or two like a heartbeat.

I had this a few months ago...it sounded just like the noise you hear when you get an ultrasound. It was driving me crazy so I went to my ENT doctor and he sent me home with Nasonex...I am thinking - what is this going to do, but it worked. I havent heard it in either ear since.

I have the same thing occasionally if I get my neck turned or if my head is down. It is the blood pulsating in an artery.
If it is going on continuously it could be a starting sign of tinnitus.

You should make a appt. with your physician I hear swooshing in my ears it could be CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) increased you should consult a neurologist.
