The 10 commandments apply to everyone, Christian or not.
Yes, I believe my sins are washed away, but if you read the 10 commandments, you will discover that the first 5 pertain to your relationship with God, and the second 5 pertain to your relationship with others.
Jesus was asked "what is the most important commandment?" and He answered:
1. Love God with all your heart
2. Love others.
That is the 10 commandments.
Yes, our sins are washed away, but we adhere to the 10 commandments because they are God's Word, and serve to remind us that we are still sinners, just forgiven.

Actually, the 10 Commandments are for Israel only (the Jews). Those are the only people God gave those laws to. There are the Noahide Laws which are similar to the 10 Comm. but I believe there are only 6 (I could be wrong on the #).
Now if Christians would actually read the Old Test, they might find out that the "Messiah" is, really, for Israel Only. ;)

curiously you're being asked a loaded question. i could want to show out that the ten "commandments" (words) are the middle of the previous covenant between God and the Israelites. Christians are no longer a social gathering to that covenant, and that covenant ended. Christians can not legally be held to the situations of this covenant. Christianity isn't approximately "retaining" factors of O.C. regulation. Christianity is approximately "pleasing" the regulation with the aid of faith expressed with the aid of love. To "shop" regulation is to conform with it regardless of the condition of the middle. .

NH: The 10 Commandments are the law given to the Israelites under the Old Covenant, by Moses. Since the Old Covenant no longer is valid, neither are the laws contained therein. Sin is a spiritual issue and not a physical one, as they [consequences for sin] was taken on by Jesus Christ by His death. (Christ is the END of the law !) Christians are bound by the New Covenant under Christ (hence, "Christ"ian). No; non-believers are not bound by the 10 Commandments, as he or she is not subjected to the terms of the Old Covenant, as it was eradicated by the death of Jesus Christ. Sin is a state of being not an action. Feeling "dirty" ... have your sins washed away by Jesus Christ.

The Ten Commandments apply only to Christians and to Jews. The "laws" of God do not apply to non-believers. Non-believers are free to get away with whatever they can under man's laws.

Yeah they are the "Ten Commandments" not the Ten suggestions. It is a goal that we should shoot for,but it is part of the Mosaic Law and we are not under Law but under grace just as Abraham was.If we break a commandment(if we sin,as John says in I John 1)we have a Savior Christ Jesus and he is faithful and just to forgive us ALL our sins.
But only if we really mean it.It is not an easy way out God is no Stupid.

in jewish tradition the ten commandments apply to ALL gentiles. because they are not bar mitsvah.
One the one hand men are not compelled under the law because of the atonement. but on the other hand.If the law wasnt required, then repentance from sin would not be required. Men who follow the spirit do not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, like so many carnal and unbelievers do.

Actually, the 10 commandments (really 14 but whose counting) is incumbent only on Jews. For the rest of humanity, there are the 7 noahide commandments.

It applies to everyone. Everyday, no matter who you are, you mess up and sin. No one is perfect. Jesus lived a sinless life, made Himself a pure sacrifice for every sin of everyone in the world, and then rose after His death to Heaven. When you accept Jesus' gift, you realize that your mistakes cannot seperate you from God. Jesus paid the price for everyone, believers and unbelievers the same.
