I have a very small, almost non existant, family. I would like my godson, who will be 4 when I get married, to be the ring bearer. I would like a close friend's little sister, who will be 12, to be the flower girl. Are those ages appropriate?

It would be sort of cute, too, because the little sister is my godson's aunt!

Generally, the suggested age is 4-10, but that can be adjusted for the child's maturity, what they mean to you, etc. In the end, it's your wedding and you cand o what you want to, there is no right answer. You could even have the 12 year old be a Junior Bridesmaid if you wanted, but if she is OK with flower girl, go for it! Good luck!

Usually, the flower girl and ring boy are about 5 to 10 years of age -- most of the time, people try to find a flower girl and ring boy who are similar in age/height because they walk down the aisle together. Your godson is 4 so he will probably be okay -- however, because he is so young be prepared. He might get tired and cranky during the ceremony. At 12, the girl is a bit older than most flower girls but she should be fine - she'll probably make an excellent flower girl.

The 4 year old being the ring bearer is perfect...but 12 is far too old to be a flower girl. You want to keep that duty in the 3-5 age range. A 12 year old would be a junior bridesmaid.

I think 4 is too young. He's not old enough to understand the impotance of what he's doing. However, a lot of people use fake rings, sewn onto the pillow, and keep the real ring safe with the Best Man. The traditional rule is ring bearers and flower girls should be between the ages of 5-8. Though it's up to you entirely. My son has always wanted to be a ring bearer, he's 13 now and I'm going to let him do it in my wedding. So it really is up to you. Good luck.

Hi. Some books say 3-7 for flower girls and ring bearers; other books say 4-8. Personally, I think up to the age of 9 or maybe even 10 would be OK. Anything after that should be made a "junior" bridesmaid or "junior" groomsman. So....everyone in your families would be fine for both flower girl(s) and ring bearer(s).

don't listen to people tell you that would be a bad idea
when my daughter got married we did not really have any candidates for flower girl but we had to have one so we had two of her friends from school who were 16 do it and it was awesome, and her ring-bearer was around 7
yes, ages are usually from 3 to 10 but let your friends sister be the flower girl, it is your wedding

Usually these responsibilities are for children under the age of twelve. Between ages 12- 17,18 they are Jr. attendants.

Ask the girl what she thinks. She might think she's too old to be a flower girl as some 12 yr old girls mature sooner.

I think 12 is a little old for a flower girl but she could be a junior bridesmaid.

I think those ages are appropriate. Honestly though, its not about the age, its what the person means to you. So pick who you want, its your wedding!
