I read an article proclaiming that the British Navy was mothballing 1/2 of its fleet. Is this just a rumor or has the UK lost it's mind?

I am a US citizen who is a third generation Englishman. I have fought side by side with UK military who I consider my equal if not better.

Is it true; have the English surrendered?

Yes it would seem that way and the British government are throwing away hundreds of years of history at the moment by cutting back like this. It's four Frigates that are being left which is a shame because the Royal Navy haven't got much in the way of ships at the moment,i bet that the UK will have no Navy left in a couple of years if they keep mothballing the ships and selling the parts or even the whole ship to other countries.

No. England has little or no enemies to attack. It's huge navy was necessary only when the English empire was stretched across the globe. Now it is just too big to defend a small island like England.

mothballs doesnt mean razorblades. They must have got some more money in the budget, and decided to award a contract to someone's buddy who owns a shipyard or two.

I think that the decision makers have forgotten the Falkland war where they had to save there last carriers from the sledgehammer to use them in that war.

The US routinely mothballs its fleet and aircraft, it doesn't mean "destroy" it means put them in storage.
