What is the current trend in kitchen cabinets? Cherry-dark brown? Medium brown?
What about countertops?

To answer the question about my preferences - I like both medium and dark brown cabinets. If I re-do my kitchen, I want to make sure I don't date it too much (install items that are on their way out already)

I'm in the process right now of re-staining all the cabinets in my entire house, including the kitchen. I'm going from maple to dark cherry, and so far so good! Looks great, very classic, and its not as difficult as I thought it might be. I'm using a stripper that basically you paint on, wait 10 minutes, and wipe it off. After wards, I paint on the stain (of course, I purchased a stain that does not need to be wiped off, so its SIMPLE). I went to home depot (paint department) and they set me up with everything I needed to do the job. Take care!

Lighter colored woods such as Red Oak, Maple, Ash and Hickory have been strong, but I'm noticing a trend in higher end homes towards Cherry to Medium Brown. Cherry is always a strong contender, but I'm even seeing some Walnut accents (natural finish) in kitchen desk tops, and Mahogany trim baseboards and countertops. The granites are still strong, with darker fuller colors strong but some lighter colored tops. Some specialty tops in concrete and stainless and even wood as I mentioned.

The current trends may not suit your personal taste. Make a decision based on the space, construction type, light and above all budget. The space use for storage, type of cooking, amount of traffic. The time you are going to use the space before you change it again. I like stone slabs for counters and islands, you may like tiles that will show debris. I like open space, you like everything out where you use it. I like flat open counters to bake on, you do not like to bake. See what I mean it is personal taste.

this type of question always amazes and amuses me; what difference does it make? what do YOU like? unless you are flippinga house, it does NOT matter... you have your own preferences, why not live with them rather than what someone says is 'hot'????????? figure out what you like and do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
