Clearly this is purely hypothetical as you could never expect ALL 200 million or so adults in this country to actually be smart with a weapon. It's a mental exercise.

Well, we all know what a utopia of lawfulness the "old west" was.

1. I think the crime will stay the same. If you make Guns illegal the only people who will have the guns are Criminals. Because lets be serious if you want to get a gun you can get one. So all the law abiding citizens will have no protection while the criminals have guns.

2. Imagine if everyone had guns and everyone is trained, people will show each other a lot more respect and im sure a criminal will think twice before committing a crime against a person, when they know that person has a gun.

Clearly, this answer is also hypothetical. If everyone was trained, and mentally sound the crime rate would drop, but only if lawyers didn't get involved with the shooting of offenders. There is just TOO MUCH LITIGATION in this country!

GUNS will always be used by idiots. You don't have to be trained in shooting a firearm. Been on TV for years. Point-shoot.
As far as being trained we could expect a fall in crime but then it would spike again.
I have learned through military service to respect a weapon, not easily taught.
Ban guns? NOOO!!!
Treat with respect.

I think after some time it would fall dramatically. Idiots, assholes and fools would get killed in large numbers but then as they died off, crime would fall. Many innocent people would die in the meantime because even pros miss sometimes. Look at friendly fire deaths in time of war. Consider Iraq for a minute. How many people there have guns? Enough said.

Here in the UK all firearms are banned and shotguns are highly restricted. Since the ban, gun crime has risen to unprecedented levels. So you could reasonably say more guns in legal private ownership means less crime.

Well they eliminated weapons in Australia and Canada and the next year all divisions of crime went up in those countries. Funny how you don't hear the anti-gun establishment say anything about that.

Crime rate would steadily decrease as the miscreants were slowly weeded out. The big difference would be in the Judicial system, fewer criminals, fewer prisons, fewer liberal democrats.

unfortunately not all American are on the same educating level. i think crime would go up slightly. i am a gun advocate and belive in carry. although i dont do it. i believe the right for law abiding citizens to carry concealed. but it just takes one stupid person to wreck it for the rest of us.

I think the only thing that would do is have people who use the guns on each other, die quicker and die cleaner. A well aimed shot is always better than a bungled one.

I think that crime rate would go up, because more accidents would happen (not from uneducated gun users, but from misunderstandings among individuals, humans are by nature pretty violentand impulsive)

but more importantly, I think we would lose trust and faith in ourselves, our government, our neighbors, and our society.
