my lower back - a large heart with a tribal design on either side
i love hearts and love and i really think tribal designs are cool
and mysterious.
it was like short quick stabbings especially on the spine but,
because they have to stop every few minutes to wipe the area
it makes it tolerable.
my best memory of that day is the man before me also got
his first tattoo a little baby tattoo and i got a huge one.

My first tattoo I ever got was at a place called Rising Dragon tattoo's here in New York City. One thing you need to know is that when I got my first tattoo at 18 yrs old tattooing was still illegal in Manhattan and you had to first know someone in order to get an appt. and there were no store fronts. You had to go up into an apartment or something of that nature. So at 18 years old going up into this kind of dingy place on the lower east side was an experience of its own.
The tattoo I got was of a sun with a face in it and it was pretty cool at the time.
That tattoo later ended up becoming part of an even larger tattoo I have now. I now have a total of 27 hours of tattooing on my back alone. It is a mural of a wizard separating my back with his magic between day and night. Half of my back is a bright sunshing day and the other half is a dark and mysterious night. There is a lot of hidden items in the tattoo itself and over all it is a work of art.
Something that I wish I had a picture I could access from this computer to show you.
As far as the pain goes after 27 hours the first 3 seem like a walk in the park. Oh I did not get all 27 hours at once though just so you know.
Enjoy getting your tattoo. Hope it is the first of many.

I got a girly skull with butterfly wings on my chest. Kind of in the ditch area near your shoulder.
It hurt sooo bad. Everyone always told me that the outline would hurt and the color and shading was simple and easy.
Well...Mine wasn't. I went to a very old tattoo artist who believed in tattooing with a single needles fashion. It hurt more than words can express. I like the idea now. Makes me feel a little more tough about it that I could stand that pain, for a first tattoo. It took us 2 hours when most regular tattoo artists could have had me in and out in a half hour.

The first tattoo I got was about 10 years ago and it was a rose on my right ankle. I had wanted a tattoo for several years and finally did it. It hurt really bad, but it was well worth it...I have since added a vine to it that goes around my ankle and down onto the top of my foot. I also have five others now. They are addicting!!

My first tattoo was a tiny rose on my upper right arm. It has since been covered up by a triple rose & tribal design and then I added some more to it. And now I want to end up with a half-sleeve.
Upper arm didn't hurt a bit! My ankle was very painful (but it didn't stop me from tattooing the other one!).
I also have my right lower leg tattooed from knee to just above the tat on my ankle and most of it was painless. I little bit of pain when the needle was real close to the side of my kneecap.
In total I'm up to 5 tattoos but I've been in the chair 7 times - - I like that potatoe chip comment, its totally true!

The first tat I got was an '***-hat' (this is what my uncle calls it). Its the place on your lower back right above the pant line. It was a tribal I designed in high school. I liked having a design of my own, but I have since worked that into a large back piece. (the new one is about 3/4 of my back)
As far as the pain goes, that's not a bad place to put one, because there is some tissue in that area. When you start going around to the sides there's nerve endings, when you move up, you start to go over your ribs... and pain is a relative thing, some people can handle more than others.
One suggestion- BREATH. the more you clench up and grit your teeth, the worse it will be on you. If you are able to just let go of the pain (because no matter where it goes, it will hurt) and relax, it will be easier.

WOW, my very first tattoo??? 12 years young, a lady bug on my L ankle, about the size of a quarter. In almost 40 years, my canvas is almost complete??? Although, I don't think ya' ever stop, once addicted!!! Still finishing up my full sleeves. No flash here, all custom.
I don't find getting a tattoo painful at all!!! I actually fall asleep while getting 'em. For me, its very relaxing!!! I relax more getting a tattoo, than a massage!!!
Remember tattoos are like potato chips, can't stop at just one, LOL!!!

My first tattoo is on my left breast (closest to my heart) and it is Prince's symbol with little flowers hanging off of it. It is about 15 years old and the color is still good (I want to get it retouched though). Did not hurt at all. Neither did my other tattoos. I have a high tolerance for pain. It is just more annoying than painful. I hate the buzzing of the tattoo gun.

I have my first tattoo on the top of my foot. I thought it hurt but it is worth it so it didn't really matter. The tattoo is snowflakes blowing in the wind because I wanted a tattoo that would go with snowboarding because it is what I love to do!
