yes it is. If they eat too big of a piece it will expand in their stomachs and could kill them. Try pigs ears or hooves they are a little bit better.

I think that depends how often you give rawhides out, make sure that the raw hide size is appropraite for the size of the dog. i.e. I have an 80lbs dog that eats a good size rawhide bone which I give to him once a month, in between I give him this dental bone called 'greenies'. He loves it! once in ahile he'll get his favorite, a pigs ear.

it can be. If your pet swallows LARGE pieces of rawhide, it can expand in their stomach and cause big problems. Rawhide should always be chewed under supervision to make sure they aren't swallowing pieces whole.

Some dogs cope OK with it.
But mine would chew his up quickly and swollow it.
then later he'd throw it up.
OOoooewww, then sometimes if I didn't catch him in time he'd swollow it again.
Clearly my dog wasn't digesting it. So I switched to hooves and ears and he did the same thing only it was more gross.
I give my dogs ropes to gnaw on. Greenies and milkbones for treats.

If you give your dog raw hides make sure it doesn't eat big chunks of it because it can choke and like someone else said it expands their stomach. Dogs do like them though so I guess they are ok.
