After defrag you should run an error check, make sure both boxes are checked. This will require you to restart. Test cold take several hours depending on the size of your harddrive. Mine takes a little over an hour to complete (60gb harddrive).

Personally i always restart my computer after disfragmentation or my firewall scan, but i suppose you dont have to, it wouldn't really matter, but i do to be on the safe side.

there is no need to restart your pc after a defrag unless u deleted a programme before defragging your hard drive

i have never restarted my pc after defrag i only restart pc if it :-

crashes,
microsoft tells me to,
or if my pc tells me to after installing or uninstalling a programme

Just carry on. Restart will not make any difference.

Just continue. Defragging does not modify and system components. It just arranges data on your hard disk.

I've never bothered with re-start just carry on regardless. You'll soon know when your pc crashes :)
