ANYONE who is living with their parents ought to be Kissing the GROUND They walk on -- this is such a blessing that is very underrated ....
When my parents were still alive ... ALL of us (MY siblings and I -- both while we were going through School Years (to finish High School), and then afterwards (when we entered the Military Service) DID (YES, DID) do chores and HELP around the home ..
OUR father was a Paraplegic from WWII ... so yes, they NEEDED help. We pushed the lawnmower, we trimmed the bushes, we planted the gardens, we did the yardwork, we fixed things around the home that needed fixing, we Did laundry/dishes/cooking, etc ... and we did what we needed to in order to HELP OUT.
When we BURIED our parents as Very Young Adults ... (yes, they were older, this was their 1st Marriage, and it lasted until their death which was together) ... we were all in shock .. we knew that they were not young, and BEGGED them to NOT go places or do things, but they were very independent all their lives, and we could NOT prevent what happened (they died in a car accident). It was very exhausting to put in our Military Duties, get our further education done, and then drive back from the duty stations every other weekend (rotating basis) to help out ... but we DID IT VOLUNTARILY.
This was RESPECT for not only the function of PARENTS, but because we knew they DESERVED our respect ... no matter what. They provided for our basic needs, and yes, sacrificed a lot to make sure that we were healthy and grew to be adults that could stand on our own.

helping out with your household helps you be resposible and it prepares you for your own home in the near by future. Yes I did do chores around the house because I would always thought of it as an opportunity to learn something else other than at school.......

Yes. That was part of learning to be responsible. Of course I didn't want to do chores but I had too. I helped with the dishes, helped with the yard work and helped dust, set the table little stuff like that but homework always came first.

when i was growing up i had to be outside helping my dad (he worked salvage.) we tore apart car engines, transmissions, etc to sell.(even in the winter). Then when he was out bringing more in, i helped my mom with the dishes, cooking, housework, helped to take care of my 5 brothers and sisters. i was up from 6am til 11 or 12 @ night. and no i didn't like working that hard either, but i had to.(or else i got beat. severely) i think it made me have good work ethics and i know what it means to have to work hard.
my school work never came first and my junior high years i missed so much school to work, i don't know how i ever passed.
my kids do very little today, compared to how hard i had it. if i ask them to take the trash out, they act like its gonna kill them.
