does anybody think that our government might use what we paid the Americans every year for there "help in supplies during WWII" will now go to our boys and girls fighting in Afganistan, Iraq, and anywhere else our peacekeeping is needed, to protect them and give them the proper equipment?

I stand corrected, sorry Great Britain.
We have only just finished paying within the last couple of weeks, think of all that interest!

£42mil paid is peanuts. They are so strapped for cash for the military the Navy is about to take a massive hit and lose half the fleet. Totally useless solution. In 1936 they deferred an upgrade to HMS Hood that would have installed armoured decking. The Bismark found that weakness and sank her. This government likes to pontificate and prance on the world stage but doesn't have the guts to pay for it. Not one of the current UK cabinet has Armed Service experience. They don't understand the meaning of duty and the covenant of the people. They have a duty to ensure the armed services are properly equipped. They never do. I attended a Fitness For Role Inspection in 1971 in Osnabruck, we had 17 AFV 432 armoured personnel carriers. We had to tow, yes tow 15 onto the parade square because we couldn't get the parts when they broke down. They are now sending AFV432's to Afghanistan. An absolute disgrace. The kit is knackered.

Gringopet....you are very misinformed.....The USA did help during the Falklands war by redeploying some of our troops to relieve those that England sent into battle; and now that half the Royal navy is to be mothballed you need America now as much as you did before.

However....one thing I like and respect about you Brits is that you always come out on top of bad situations (as a nation) and I don't think that will change in the near future. I had the privilege to get to know some of my counter parts in the Royal Marines (from joint exercises while I was stationed at Quantico, Virginia) and with people like that you guys will do okay.

With the exception of Sweden, who refused the offer, all of the debt that other nations incurred was written off by the United States. Sweden repaid.

Good idea, they should help our lads as you sugest, but I suppose it will instead pay for the MPs pay rise of 66 per cent they are asking for. By the way, those loans we repayed were interest free.

I just read that the English navy is preparing to mothball half their ships for a lack of money. As an American, I am not familiar with English budgets but your government needs to rethink its spending priorities.

I believe that debt was paid off many years ago.If fact the Britts are the only country that paid anything back.America foot the bill for the rest.We even paid 80% of the cost of war for france, up till Bein Bein Fue.Then france handed her mess over to us , and we got stuck with Vietnam and the entire cost.
