You need the gift of faith before you can believe.
Since we also have the gift of free will one have the right to accept or reject that gift.
Most people feel that religion inhibits them from doing things that are chaotic in nature...they think freedom is no responsibility and rejecting the rights of others. So you will find those will never accept it but for God's grace.

We are not believers because those of us who can think clearly know that an intelligent fair god whose motivation was human accord would have had the sense to present his 'guide for living' in a concise, understandable, not open to multiple interpretation form to every person, everywhere, at the point that they are able to understand it. Otherwise, you are discriminating based on a multitude of variables. It is plain that the stamp of god is nowhere to be found in the bible. Why is this not obvious to believers?

Ironic that you say people shouldn't believe in what others say yet you're preaching from a book written by, you guessed it, people!

I say live and let live, love thy neighbor, live long and prosper, may the force be with you and all that.

I think that with the younger generation it is trendy to not believe in God. I think so young people may be embarassed to believe. Its not right but its what I think. I am 23 and I believe there is a God but many of my friends in my age group are non believers. I have a friend who is wiccan. That is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Lots of my peers believe in witch craft and that sort of nonsense. I think its more intriguing for them to think they can cast spells and control their destiny with their little rituals but to me its just stupid.

Excuse me. I believe very strongly in the Goddess and the God, reincarnation, the power of natural elements and the divinity of nature. Just because I don't believe in YOUR tyrranical God doesn't mean I don't believe. I can direct my own path. I'm not a mindless drone who doesn't want to think for myself or take personal responsibility for my actions.

Yeah, believe in the bible!

Exodus 32:26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD's side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.

32:27 And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.

32:28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

Believe in the bible and kill people! God likes killing! C'mon, people, you have to put your HEART into it!

You do not dictate "where my heart should be"

The bible is a book, and since god cannot be proven, it is fiction at best.

Although fiction is fun, I prefer to lead my life based on values derived from reality. And I'm sure your Saint Peter would approve.

Why should I have faith in a book which was written and edited by who knows how many people over thousands of years? Why should even one line of the bible have any significance to my life?

That sounds pretty lame.
You are not a believer because believers are hypocrites.
Where have I heard that excuse before?
