I would suggest you contact a Wildlife Sanctuary and find out what to do. If this is a Fox Kit, then it may be against to law to keep it. But they may let it stay on the Mother Dog until it can be weaned then turn it over to them. I really don't know what they will say, but it is best to find out rather then land in Jail.
The Idea of keeping it is a bad idea as it is a wild animal and will always have wild ideas. Though Foxes are not generally a mean animal, it will defend itself against what it perceives as a threat on its life, they go by instinct. The other Problem is it will want to go back into the wild, but without the proper training from another Fox, this can't happen. So... Now here is the question: Are you willing to take away its right to a free life just because it is cute? I don't think so! so please contact a wildlife Official so you can do the right thing by this Beautiful Wild Animal.

If it really is a fox, you should bring it to an animal shelter. It can be illegal in some places to own wild animals like that. A good way to find out is to bring it to a shelter or a vet, not necessarily to leave, but to ask them. If they say it is a fox, they should know what to do with it. If it is nothing that should be a problem, I don't think there would be a problem keeping it.

If you live in the country you should let the dog keep it and take care of it, then later you can let it go out your back door and let it wander as it pleases. if you cage it, you can get in big trouble because you don't have a licence to keep such an animal, but if you let it wander around then you can claim it simply hangs around because it likes the dog food. don't take it to a shelter, they will either put it down because it is too young or let it go again and it will die. if you live in the city, take it to the country and let it go, you can get in even more trouble for having a wild animal in the city. (it's easier to get away with stuff when you live in the country)

You can check with you local fish and game or wildlife department. The baby has a better chance at survival if your dog nurses it, but they can bottle feed it if you prefer not to let your dog do so. Talk to them and see what they think. They can tell you the chances of disease in your area, and whether it would hurt anything for your dog to raise it.

Don't drop it off at a shelter. They are not equiped to handle wildlife.

Check the laws where you are, in many areas it is illegal to keep a wild animal without a permit. Ask at your local Humane Society, sometimes there is a group that can take orphaned wildlife.

do you live in the country ?if so then she probably did find a fox and no I would not let her keep it cause they carry rabies . call your local fish and game commision and they will come get it and care for it untill it is old enough to go to the wild . Please be carefull in the meantime cause the mother fox could come looking for it . dont let your dog get into it with the fox either cause your dog would end up dead as foxes are wicked mean. good luck .

NO, you should not keep it! Wild animals can carry diseases that your dog could catch. Call animal control or your local wildlife rescue and they will take care of it for you.
