Go for it! However, your writing is not up to par for 8th grade.

It all depends on your personal preference. However, this will get your foot in the door for the position you want. 8th graders are receptive to tutoring more so than a 5th grader. 8th graders realize they are about to start high school and understand the importance of tutoring. Try it you may like it....good luck

You might surprise yourself. After all you were able to learn 8th grade math and writing skills once too. If this is with children from one school try to see if the school would loan you a copy of the text book or let you see some of the worksheets. I used to be a big fan of k-2, but working with older children has been even more rewarding.

If you feel that you can help the students you should take the job. It may also be beneficial to talk to the person offering you the job and express your concerns. They may be willing to switch you to a lower grade level. If not, you can always take the job on a trial basis and if you feel that you are not helping the students you can quit. Although, just because a student is in 6-8 grade does not mean that they are in advanced subjects. I am a special education major and I have worked with students in 7-8 grades who are at a 5th grade level. Good luck!

Don't just phone. Go to a prospective work place in person. Also, dress how you would if you were going to start working there right when you walk in. Be confident in the interview, and look the interviewer in the eye.

I don't think that you should because if you are uncomfortable teaching 8th graders, you will end up being miserable at your job.

Yes, it will give you experience in the field. If you can handle 8th graders you can handle any grade.

The older kids will mean more work for you. You can probably handle it though. Do you have to agree to take it for a long time, i mean maybe you could agree to a trial period and see how it works.

I would only take it if I felt competent enough to do the job and if it fit into my schedule. If you are having second thoughts, you should really consider if this is what you want to get yourself into.
