There might have been an advantage to religion in the past, but it has become a liability in today's world. However, because religion plays on human insecurities, it is good at promoting itself. So it probably won't go away any time soon, unfortunately.

Let's hope that we survive long enough to get over our religious superstitions.

Religion has taken on a new definition these days. I prefer the dictionary over the comments made by ignorant TV evangelists.

The human race cannot survive without religion. It's like food or water. It is natural to human beings. Without Christianity, we would have no civilization as we know it. An overview of history reveals this.

No civilization can advance without morals. Any civilization that sanctions the death of its own citizens in the past has ceased to exist. There are no exceptions. The fight against abortion/contraception is a front line battle to save our civilization, in the final analysis.

Religion does not cause wars. It is people who lean away from (or reject) their religion that causes wars, especially the rich and powerful.

Yes...superstition has kept people from proper health care and proper behavior since the beginning of time. With religion, people may do the right thing on occasions but for the wrong reason. Without religion, people can direct their own life, make responsibile decisions and take responsibility for their choices instead of blaming some supernatural force.

I think religion conflicts with the potential for survival.

If it were left up to true muslims, then yes, obviously. But, thankfully, a God is in control, that won't let them win in the end. It is up to the creator of that human race to let it "not survive" or die out. Amazing, that he hasn't. He has got to be the most patient thing imaginable.

In some ways yes. For example, if a meteor was heading for earth, how many people would think it was Armageddon and just wait for it to happen rather than try to prevent it somehow?

Perhaps the human race wasn't intended to survive.
