A 1 month old should still be nursing. If it has been separated from its mom, see if you can return it to her.

If that's not possible, you're going to have to use puppy formula. Your local pet store or vet should carry it. You can probably start mixing it with dry puppy food and water until you have a watery mush and try to get the dog to lap it up.

At 1 month, puppies are usually just starting to be weaned, so your pup may have no idea what the food is. If it won't eat the mush, dip your finger in it and let it suckle off your finger.

For a puppy of that age you need to go to the pet store and get a can of the milk formula because the puppy is way to young still and needs all the vitamins and minerals that milk has so it can develop a strong immune system and fight off bacteria better. The puppy should stay on milk till its about 8 weeks or so. Then u can wean it away and start with soft puppy chow. And plz by any means do not take the pup outside on the grass or around any other animal unless the other animal has all its vaccination because puppies can catch anything at that age especially parvo and that is a very bad disease that could kill the pup if not taken care of quickly.

He's a little young to be away from mom, usually they nurse until 6 weeks and learn to eat solids between 6 and 8 weeks. If he can handle a soft paste, a canned puppy food or dry puppy food mixed with water or mixed with puppy formula would be OK. If he can't handle solids yet, you will need to get a pet baby bottle and some puppy formula, you can get both of these from a pet supply store. He should be able to go potty on his own by now, but keep an eye on him to make sure he does. If he's not going on his own, you will need to take a damp paper towel or wash cloth and rub his bottom with it to make him poop and pee. Bottle-fed babies sometimes get constipated, so it's important to do this. Human formula or cow's milk are NOT ok, neither one will give a puppy balanced nutrition. You would only need to tube feed if he can't suck on the bottle, unlikely at this age. If he won't eat or nurse, get him to the vet ASAP. Hypoglycemia can be fatal in less than a day with these guys.

At 4 weeks, they should still be nursing. You can buy the milk needed and bottles designed for puppies. If they don't carry them wherever you buy your dog food, your vet can sell them to you.

The puppy won't be able to eat dry food for a few more weeks, but canned dog food will be fine. You may have to place some in the puppy's mouth to show them that it is food. It's best if they nurse until they are 6 to 8 weeks, but if the puppy does well on the canned food you can weened them sooner.

Good luck!

A one month old puppy should still be with mom and therefore she will still be feeding. When it comes time to assist in weaning a good quality puppy food moistened with either warm water or puppy milk replacer is the best.

*****It is illegal to buy, sell, giveaway or adopt a 4 week old puppy, so I hope you are asking because you own mom & pups and are in the process of starting them to get use to solid foods*****.

Royal Canin has a great tiny kibble for puppies called "Baby Dog". You can also buy some Esbillac or Just Born to add to that for a week then after that the pup should eat the kibble fine without anything to moisten it, or else use a tad of warm water.
There are other brands of quality puppy kibble, but I love that one because of it's size, quality etc.

If the puppy is still 1 month he shouldnt be away from the mom but if she isnt near the best thing to do is to warm up some milk and feed it with a baby bottle.
