I have a big tattoo on my upper back that I got about 2 hours ago. Some ppl say to use plastic cling wrap (tattoo artist) for 2 days, but i'm used to using guase pads. How long should I leave it covered with cling wrap? It's already sweating.. And should I out cling wrap on when I get out of the shower?

My tattoo artist has always told me to leave the cling wrap on for no more than two hours. He then told me to very lightly ( using your fingers ) wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap and leave it open to the air after that. If you keep it covered, it's not going to heal. You can also put a little bit of lotion on it if it gets too dry. Make sure to use an unscented quality lotion.

For my back tattoo (which was my first) I followed the tattoo artist's instructions as I was afraid I would ruin the tat if I didn't! I left cling wrap on for about 2-3 days and it did sweat a lot, but it's supposed to. I was told not to shower for 2 days (just sponge bathe) and by the time I was able to shower again, I did take off the cling wrap, but i didn't scrub over the tat, just very gently sponged it, so as not to run off any of the light crust.

2 hours is definately too soon to unwrap & shower though.

Take all that off!!!
Don't put gauze on it because tattoos dry out and if you take the gauze off it can cling to the tattoo and pull off ink.
You should only have cling wrap on for around 5 hours. After that just wash it a lot with antibacterial soap and apply a thin layer of A and D whenever its dry.
Only do that for the first day or two. After that apply Aveeno everyday until its done peeling and healed.
Good luck!

you can take the original cling wrap off after 4-6 hours of getting it down. Take a shower & allow a soft stream of water to cleanse the area. Use natural or antibacterial soap...lightly patting it on. Remember tattoos are essentially a created scar or wound so you have to treat it as such. Keep it air drying as long as you can but when you need to wear clothes and dont want to get the tattoo ointment/goop (A & D ointment works great) use cling wrap and tape to keep your clothes clean and to keep the tattoo from being scratched while healing.

take it off. let it breath did you get instructions on how to take care of it from the tattoo artist. you need to wash it not scrub it and dont itch it what ever you do. dont pick the scab. you will pull the ink out.
Remove bandage.

Wash gently with mild soap and water and pat dry.

Apply thin film of triple antibiotic ointment 2 - 3 times a day for 3 days. Apply sparingly at first, then more often when needed as the tattoo dries up.

After 3 days, apply a non-scented hand lotion for 7 to 10 days to keep the tattoo moist. Always remember to apply thinly and evenly.

A light scab will form in about 2 days. DO NOT PICK at the scab.

Try to keep water off of the tattoo for 7 to 10 days after the tattoo is washed for the first time. Keep it moisturized with lotion to keep a scab from forming.

Do not swim or soak in tub until healed. Showering is okay, just try to keep as much water off tattoo as possible.

After shower, pat dry and apply ointment or lotion.

Do not pick or scratch, when the tattoo gets itchy, give it a slap.

Keep tattoo out of the sun for the first 2 weeks. The sun will not tan a tattoo, so use sunscreen after it heals to prevent fading.

Come back for another tattoo!!

I left mine on for the rest of the day. Tomorrow take the plastic wrap off and wash it with soap and water. Cling wrap is better than gauze because gauze can stick to the tattoo and it may hurt when pulling it off.

I've had plenty of tattoos also...i would use the plastic wrap for the first day.....after that i would just make sure that you keep the tattoo moist with lotion, so it doesn't dry out, and so it heals properly....but the most important thing is to make sure that if you aren't putting the plastic wrap on that you keep it lotioned up.. it will also ease the itchiness

I have 8 and some of them I used just gauze but the tattoos stuck to it. The cling wrap will probably make you sweat a bunch, and will make the tattoo moist, which will then make it slower to heal, I say let it breathe.

All tattoo artists tell you something different. I only ever leave mine covered for an hour. after or any time something may irritate it it. (ie: a shirt) Try to have your shirt off when possible and sleep on your stomach for about a week. You really don't need to worry much about showers, just don't let the water beat on it. If you can, face the water and just bend your head over to was the hair. Hope it looks good :-)

usually my tattoo artist says leave the cling wrap on for atleast three hours. then wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap. put A+D on it and recover it before you go to bed (i always get my tattoos at night) then in the morning wash it off and let it dry for 10 minutes. apply A+D to the tattoo and go about your day. applying it about three or four times a day for four days. on the fifth day of having the tattoo switch to a fragrance free lotion and keep lotioning it until all of the skin has peeled and it is healed.
