My fiance and I are thinking of getting married at the beach on May 19th. We want to come back and have a cookout reception the next weekend. Is it corny to have a cookout reception on Memorial Day weekend? Thanks for the input....

I think it's a great idea. The only thing I would consider would be the fact that alot of people go out of town that weekend to go camping or pay their respects. Some even have an agenda of something they do every year at that time. As long as you plan far enough ahead and check with your friends and family first (the ones that you would like to attend) and it's good with everyone else...I say go for it.

I think your idea is great but the timing is all wrong.
Planning anything on a holiday weekend is a bad idea. You will not have the turnout you envision. And Memorial Day is just that; a day for remembering.

Choose another date for your reception.

Absolutely not. Your wedding is between you and your partner. A cookout sounds like it would be great fun for family and friends to join with you as husband and wife.

Memorial Day is not a time of celebration. Rent a good war movie. Volunteer at a veteran's home. Send care packages to troops in Iraq. Do not have a party.

Not corny, but it's silly to break it up in two weekends.

I say go for it, as long as your family and friends plan to be around then.

Why would it be corny? It's your wedding. Do whatever makes you happy.

Corny? no. Cheap? yes.

Throw some burgers and hotdogs on the grill and tell everyone to bring a gift... or cash!
